Thomas McNamara Obituary

Thomas McNamara
Thomas John McNamara known affectionately as "Tommy Mack" passed away on May 8, 2021. He was 73 years old. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elwood & Elizabeth McNamara and nephew, Daniel McNamara.
Tom is survived by his son, Jack McNamara (wife Alaina), granddaughters, Lillian & Carina McNamara, daughter, Tracy Getselman (husband Boris) granddaughter Rya, grandsons Asher & Joseph Getselman, former wife Dinah McNamara, brother, James McNamara (wife Bonnie), nephews, Shaun McNamara, James McNamara Jr., many beloved cousins, his Senior Softball and Dragon Boat communities as well as girlfriend Linda Murphy.
Born and raised in Scotch Plains, NJ, Tom graduated HS Class of '65. He received a BS in Psychology from the College of Emporia '71, his MS in Industrial Psychology from Emporia State University '75. Tom loved to play sports especially baseball and football. He was nicknamed "The Golden Toe" for kicking so many game-winners and played at the college and semi-professional level.
In 1982, Tom settled in Canton, MA with Dinah and raised a family. He was a great Dad and very active with his kids, coaching their sports teams. Tom enjoyed a 42-year career in Human Resources Employee Relations. He brought the same passion and energy to his job that he had on the gridiron.
Tom had a zest for life, a hearty laugh and bright smile. He was thoroughly enjoying his retirement in St. Augustine, FL, playing in multiple senior softball leagues and competing in dragon boat races. He embodied the phrase "Live each day to the fullest."

I was a neighbor of Tom's in St Augustine where I got to know him. He became a good friend and we shared our passion for Patriot' s football. When he last visited New England we shared a round of golf, a game Tom was working on mastering. My condolences to his extended family. I will fondly remember him.

My most sincere condolences to Tom's family and friends. He will be missed by many. He was passionate about sports and life. He lived a full active life. I teased him about being the Eveready Bunny. And that laugh! Rest in Peace my friend.
