Thomas Russell Meachem, 81, of Daytona Beach, FL, passed away peacefully at his home on Aug. 6, 2025. Born on Sept. 22, 1943 in Syracuse, NY, Russ (as he was known to his family) was fortunate to live a great life. After his father passed away in 1998, he retired and moved back to Daytona Beach to care for her mother until her passing in 2003. He lived in his childhood home with his various pets, drove his convertible on the beach, re-connected with childhood friends and enjoyed a beer and fish sandwich weekly at Our Deck Down Under until his health began to fail. Russ was a generous man both to family and friends and gave generously to many charities. He had a great sense of humor and was quirky and opinionated. He loved his life in Daytona Beach.
He is survived by his sister Anne Meachem, his niece Margaret (Meg) Dadswell, his nephew John Rick and his great nieces Jennifer, Michelle and Sophia and the many other Meachem and Russell family members.
He was fortunate to have a friend in Barb Sawran who helped him run the household and managed his life in the last few years as he struggled with health issues. Barb is a godsend and his Canadian family is eternally grateful to her. He enjoyed the care provided by all the lovely ladies of Home Instead. There was nothing Russ liked better than chatting with the ladies. Thanks to all of them for making his last year happy and comfortable. Thanks also to everyone who helped care for him from Halifax Medical Centre Daytona, the Daytona Beach EMS, Solaris, Confident Care of Florida, Excellence Care, Gentiva Hospice and all of his doctors.
Visitation will begin at 11:00am, followed by the memorial service and a light luncheon at 11:30am on Saturday Aug. 16, 2025, at Baldwin Brothers Ormond Beach Chapel, 1185 W. Granada Blvd., Suite 11, Ormond Beach, FL.
