A graveside service for Mr. Thomas R. Ngar, 85, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, January 6, 2024, in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA, with Rev. Scottie Gray officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd., Monroe, LA. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 6, from 12:00 P.M. until 2:45 P.M. at Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd.
Mr. Ngar was born August 20, 1938, in Dumas, AR, and passed away January 4, 2024, in Monroe, LA. He received a formal education from the University of Oklahoma, University of Arkansas at Monticello, and Northeast Louisiana University. He retired from the United States Navy and Army Reserves. In his early career, he served as a Deputy at the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Department. Mr. Ngar was selected to work on several mission projects at NASA, in Huntsville AL. His lifelong career was a teacher. He taught mathematics and computer science at Monticello High School. Drew High School, and Wilmar High School in AR; Jack Hayes Junior High, Claiborne Christian, Ouachita Parish High School, Ouachita Parish Alternative Center, and River Oaks in Monroe, LA. He also taught courses at Louisiana Business College and Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Department Law Enforcement Academy. For several years he tutored in the Math Clinic at his home. Mr. Ngar’s greatest satisfaction came from teaching and helping students achieve success.
He received several educational awards including Teacher of the Year, twice, and the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Technology.
Mr. Ngar never met a stranger. He loved helping others. His pride and joy was his family. He loved spending time with family and friends.
Mr. Ngar was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Greene Ngar; mother, Iva Williams Ngar Carter; father, Jung Ngar; stepfather, Claud Carter; brother, Leeman Ngar; sister, May Fon Jung; and significant other, Nancy Christian.
Survivors include his children, Thomas Ngar, Jr. and wife Irish and Bettina Eaton and husband Jackie; stepson, Matthew Chladek; grandchildren, Chris Meehan (Heather), Brian Eaton (Cyd), Kylie Kurzman (Nick) and Andrew Ngar; great grandchildren, Sawyer Meehan, Noble Meehan, Tate Meehan, and Lincoln Eaton; brother, Sammy Ngar (Linda); and sister, May Lon Roberts (Gary).
Pallbearers will be Chris Meehan, Brian Eaton, Nick Kurzman, Chris Bonnette Landon Ragsdale, and Chandler Ragsdale.
