Thomas Gerard O'Neill passed away March 1, 2024 at the age of 90, at his home in Lakewood Ranch, FL. His battle with cancer showed his courage in facing life's challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Tom came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.
Tom was born in Dublin, Ireland on August 12, 1933, where he was raised. Tom met the love of his life, Catherine (Kay) Roche, in Dublin, Ireland, shortly after finishing his studies. They had a bond second to none. After marrying, Tom and Kay moved to the United States in 1958 when he was transferred with Aer Lingus International Airlines. Tom and Kay lived in New York City before settling in Medfield, Massachusetts in 1963, where they raised their family. Tom retired as District Sales Manager with Aer Lingus in 1996, where he had worked for over 40 years. Together, Tom and Kay embraced traveling and spending hours with friends and family enjoying great times, until Kay's passing in 1999.
Tom had a very vibrant personality, one that lit up the room. Everyone would remember Tom as a kind and caring person, with a huge smile and laugh. That laughter was at its height when he was around his best friend, Brian Moore.
Tom retired to Lakewood Ranch, Florida in 2003, and spent much of his time enjoying the outdoors. He could be found on the golf course or volunteering at the Ringling Brothers Museum in Sarasota. Tom was a devout Catholic throughout his entire life and was very involved in his faith community at the Church of St Patrick in Sarasota, FL. Tom also enjoyed returning to Ireland each year to visit his relatives and dear friends.
Tom is survived by his son, David O'Neill and his wife Francine; daughter, Deirdre Lyons and her husband Michael; daughter, Susanne O'Neill; grandchildren, Shane O'Neill, Michael and Catherine Lyons; nephew, Paul Byrne and his wife June; niece, Vivienne Byrne, and many great-nieces and nephews.
Tom is predeceased by his wife, Catherine Mary O'Neill; father, Thomas J. O'Neill; mother, Mary O'Neill; sister, Eileen Byrne; niece, Lesley Webster.
Visiting hours will be held at the Roberts Mitchell Caruso Funeral Home, 15 Miller Street, Medfield, MA on Monday, March 11th, 2024 from 4-7pm. Funeral Services will be held at St Edward the Confessor Church, 133 Spring St, Medfield, MA on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 10am.

We here at AAA are so sad to hear of Tom's passing. He was a beloved client of mine in travel and of Bianei's in insurance. He always came into the office with a smile, a hug, and a story of Ireland and his travels. He will be sorely missed!

Sending prayers and love to everyone who knew him and will miss this very gentle, kind, knowledgeable man.
