Thomas Leon Oldfield

Thomas Leon Olafield was born August 3, 1955 in Seattle Washington to George Leon Oldfield & Augusta Byrom Oldfield. He passed away on September 13, 2024 in Wichita Falls TX. His dad was career Air Force & stationed off the coast on Whidbey Island when Tom was born. While growing up, he lived in San Antonio Texas, Auburn Nebraska & Travis AFB California. In 1973, Tom graduated from McCollum High School in San Antonio TX.
After high school, he followed his dad & brother by joining the Air Force. He served from 1973 to 1977, mostly in the San Antonio area.
At a time when computers were coming on the scene, Tom made a great career of what he had learned in the Air Force.
With that background Tom was hired by Electronic Data Systems, or EDS, the brain-child of Ross Perot. He moved to Dallas TX. We cannot locate exact dates, but he was there for many years, receiving numerous promotions. He was proud to say he attended meetings with Ross Perot, who he greatly respected.
In 2011, Tom had a cancerous kidney removed & eventually went on disability. In February 1997 Tom married Sharon States & they lived in Frisco TX. On Tom's birthday in 2012, he became a grandpa to Nicholas Koch, who he greatly cherished.
Another date important to Tom...it was just after his birthday this year when he celebrated his 25th year of sobriety. In the fall of 2021, following a divorce, Tom chose to move near family in Wichita Falls. He was quite busy finding new doctors. He joined Faith Baptist Church and enjoyed being a part of the men's Bible Study class led by Cecil Fultz.
Survivors include his brother Don (wife Sharon) Oldfield, his sister Michelle Oldfield of Annapolis, Maryland and his younger sister Cheri Schmitz of Mascoutah, Illinois. His grandson Nicholas Koch lives in Bedford TX. Nieces & nephews are Josh (Joy) Tidwell, Justin, Annie & Mary of Richmond, Virginia, Meghan Tidwell of Philadelphia PA, Lauren (Kris) Mahan & Stella of Wichita Falls, Lindsey Fox, Noah & Micah of Harrisburg, South Dakota and Tyler (Taylor) Straw, Matthew & Cassidy of New Athens, Illinois. Tom will be missed by two of his neighbors, Sherry & John.
A small memorial service for Tom was held on September 21, 2024 at Faith Baptist Church, Wichita Falls TX. His arrangements were handled by Falls Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
