Thomas Piglia Sr

Thomas James Piglia, Sr., left this world peacefully on July 12, 2025 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Jo Ann Martin "Tut" of 70 years; his children Marilyn D'Antoni (David, deceased), Tommy Piglia, Jr. (Theresa), Larry Piglia (Sally), Mary Catherine Reiser (Richard), Jackie Schroeder (Mark) and Joel Elam (Ed); his grandchildren Jared (Stephanie), Scott (Ginny), Amanda, Tommy III (Emma), Richard III, Zoe, Katie, and Olivia; great grandchildren Aida, Thomas IV, Annie, and Sadie, sister, Ann Wetta and brothers Larry Piglia and Pat Piglia. He is preceded in death by his parents John George Piglia, Sr., and Viola Ellis, brothers John, EJ, Jerry, and sister, Clare. Tom was a remarkable person who loved people and saw the good in everyone. He was born in the Irish Channel and graduated from Fortier High School. He was employed by Texaco for 41 years. Tom excelled in baseball and basketball in his early years even being offered to play with the Pelicans in the minor league. He declined the offer to stay and take care of his family. At the age of 20, Tom met the love of his life, Mary Jo Ann Martin at a CYO dance. He loved having family together to celebrate all the holidays and special occasions. He also enjoyed the many Piglia family gatherings where his brothers and sisters and all their families came together. Tom loved Thoth Sunday, having an open house every year for family and friends, even providing a brass band and leading a second line to the parade. As a long time parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi, he was very active as lector and annual fair chairman. He was known as "Mayor of Patton St." and the alumnae of SFA designated him "Mr. St. Francis of Assisi." Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 16, at 9:00 AM followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 631 State Street, New Orleans, LA 70118.
