Thomas P. Ryan

1945 - 2023

Thomas Patrick Ryan age 77, born August 5, 1946, died at Berkshire Medical Center on August 11, 2023.

Thomas was a lifelong resident of Pittsfield. He is predeceased by his parents Elizabeth Boyer Ryan and Francis Ryan, and his loving companion Barbara Wuinee.

He is survived by his sister Sheila Ryan Sykes, brother William Ryan (Helen Ryan), and sister Maureen Ryan Walsh (Mark Walsh). He leaves many nieces and nephews.

He is a graduate of Pittsfield High School and the University of Massachusetts -Stockbridge School of Agriculture.

As a devout Catholic, he was a proud parishioner at Sacred Heart Church, followed by many years of worship at St. Agnes, Dalton. While a resident at Mount Carmel Care, he attended rosary and mass regularly.

He was head superintendent at Wyantenuck Country Club, Great Barrington, MA, and assistant greenskeeper at Kittansett CC, Mattapoisett, MA.

He later was a long time employee at Carr Hardware, where he helped many customers and made many friends.

For several years, he was involved with Northeastern NY Speedskating Association, and officiated at many skating events including the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid NY.

Thomas was an avid golfer. He spent many years with family and friends at Berkshire Hills Country Club playing casual and tournament golf and joining in social games of the Pitch League.

In his youth, he was a member of the Boys Club Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corp. His love for drum corp competitions and performances was a lifelong passion.

He was a long time member of the Berkshire Hillsman Barbershop group, and a lead singer in the Cross State Connection and Page Four quartet groups.

Most recently, he performed a Christmas show with his quartet members at Mount Carmel Care Center, where he was a resident and beloved member of the care community. His voice was often heard in the halls at Mount Carmel. He carried a beautiful song in his heart that was a welcome sound to all.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours will be Thursday, August 24, from 4-7pm at Dery Funeral Home, Bradford St., Pittsfield MA.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial and celebration of life be held on August 25 at St. Agnes Church, Dalton, MA at 10am. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Tom was an active member of the MCC community and loved to participate in social activities. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mount Carmel Care Center through Dery Funeral Home.
