Thomas A. Salenbien, age 71 of
Adrian, Michigan passed away Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Hospice of Lenawee Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family. Thomas was born June 23, 1952, in
Adrian, Michigan to Albert and Georgina (Vandecasteele) Salenbien and was a 1970 graduate of Sand Creek High School. He was an active member of Knights of Columbus council #1665 and Holy Family Parish -St. Mary's Church, where he served as an usher and greeter.
Thomas, Tom, Big Tom, Uncle Tom, Dad and Grandpa was a true family man. His smile was infectious and as big as the room. He was known for his kind heart and generosity. Tom was a selfless man who was always willing to help anyone in need. Tom's proudest accomplishment was his three children, which he loved dearly. Tom was lucky to work with his best friend and brother Larry for the family business, Al's Backhoe Service, through which they developed many lifelong friends within the community. Tom could be seen around town at his favorite eating spots and everyone knew him by name. Tom enjoyed playing basketball with his brothers, spending his free time fishing, golfing, working in the barn, family card nights with his siblings, and attending family events. Tom always enjoyed going on the annual hunting trip Up North with his brothers and cousins. Tom even purchased a 13 passenger van so he and his siblings could all ride together to functions. Tom especially loved spending time with his grandkids and attending their sporting events and programs.
He is survived by his son Thomas Salenbien, two daughters, Kelly (Joshua) Smith and Kerry (Jeremiah) Kraft, six grandchildren Brysen and Karly Smith, Tracen and Kylie Salenbien, Kinsley and Karsyn Kraft, five brothers, Leonard (Connie) Salenbien, James Salenbien, Daniel (Linda) Salenbien, Joseph (Debbie) Salenbien, and Larry Salenbien, five sisters, Bertha Garrison, Julie (Dean) Lakatos, Patty (Matt) Davidson, Cindy (Allen) Croll, and Debbie (Dave) Suydam, a brother-in-law, Randy Ries. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by sisters, Jeannie and Linda, a brother, Albie, sister-in-laws, Kay and Karen, brother-in-law Neal.
A funeral mass for Thomas will be on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Parish - St. Mary's,
Adrian, Michigan with Father Michael Newman. A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2023, from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home in
Adrian, Michigan. There will also be a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral mass at St. Mary's. Burial will take place at St. Mary's cemetery.
