Thomas J. Schmutz, 65, of Bluford, Illinois, passed away June 10, 2025 at his home. He was born January 17, 1960 in Galesburg, Illinois to the late Russell James and Barbara Jean (Jackson) Schmutz. Thomas married Beverly (Byars) Schmutz on June 4, 1988 and she survives.
In addition to his beloved wife, Tom is survived by his children, Jordan (John) Brown and Jessica Knight; grandchildren, Jhett Brown, Josslyn Brown, Brooklyn Knight, Payton Knight, Edyn Knight, Mason Knight, Shylie Donoho, Kobe Donoho, and Alexendria Donoho; sister, Patricia (Rick) Comeens; and step-siblings, Lori (William) Maass and Robin (Bruce) Ballard.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother Verna Schmutz.
Tom was a graduate of Danville High School in 1978 and studied mechanical engineering and architecture from 1978-1981 at Illinois Central College. He had worked as Vice-President for Food Giant from 1992-2002. Tom was the owner and operator of Tom's Supermarkets and Ace Hardware, both located in several locations, as well as Lakeside Ranch. He was a member of Central Christian Church in Mount Vernon. Tom loved his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren and cheering them on at all of their events. He enjoyed fishing and spending time on the farm, raising cattle. He was a big Saint Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed family vacations. His pride for his family never went unnoticed. Tom's unending love, support, and commitment to his family will be forever cherished and greatly missed.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 6:00 pm with Reverend Steven Piercy officiating.
