Thomas J. Sheaffer, 85, of Lancaster, PA, passed away Wednesday, March, 18, 2026, at Lancaster Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Tom shared 59 years of marriage with his wife Mary K. (Lozinski) Sheaffer.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late James T. and Genevieve (Hartl) Sheaffer. He graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School, Class of 1958, and then served in the US Air Force at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, IL.
Tom completed studies through the University of Phoenix and did social work as the director of the Lancaster Neighborhood Senior Center. He also served as the director of the Lancaster Consumer Protection Organization.
He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Tom was active in Pennsylvania Jaycees, he served as commissioner of Pennsylvania Dutch Council Boy Scouts of America and was a member of Throwing Bull Tribe, was a founding board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lancaster County, and a member of Travelers Protective Association.
Tom was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to his family, which includes his wife Mary, their son, Andrew Sheaffer, husband of Amanda of Landisville, their daughter Kristin Mejias, wife of Angel of Lancaster, his son Steven Kralick, 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, and his sister Winifred Rambler. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his infant daughter Lisa Danielle Sheaffer, son James Sheaffer, and his sister Patrica Kubala.
A visitation will take place Monday, March 23, 2026, from 10 to11 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Stephen Logue as Celebrant at 11 am, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 558 Walnut St, Lancaster, PA 17603. Final Commendation and Farewell with Military Honors will be in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
