Thomas Smullen Obituary

Published by Legacy on May 23, 2025.
Thomas H. Smullen Jr, 86, of Minnetonka, MN, died on May 13, 2025. He was a loving husband of 38 years to wife, Marilyn; devoted father to sons, Todd and Scott (Julie); grandsons, Chase, Brock, and Ascher; granddaughters, Alexis and Sydney; and caring uncle to Gini Ohlson and Greg Ohlson. Tom was preceded in death by parents, Thomas and Mildred Suzanne Smullen; sister, Suzanne Ohlson; and brother-in-law, David Ohlson.
Tom was born and raised in the Minneapolis Area. He graduated from The Blake School.
He attended Duke University in N.C. and the University of Minnesota from which he graduated. He was a member of Chi Psi fraternity. His career was in banking going back to the days of Northwestern National Bank.
Tom loved and played most sports. He and Marilyn were avid supporters of University of Minnesota sports including football, both men and womens hockey and Volleyball. He loved animals having rescued several including their two beloved cats, Tex and Frankie, who continue to search the house for him.
Tom and Marilyn were active members of Meetinghouse Church (formally known as
Colonial Church of Edina). Tom served as a Deacon among other Posts. They loved to travel, spending time in the California desert in the winter and beaches in the summer. Travel highlights include a trip to Israel with the church and time spent at a lodge in Idaho white water rafting. God walked with Tom through his whole life, but perhaps most powerfully at the end of his life through the compassionate care of friends, family and ministers.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 29 at noon at Meetinghouse Church, 6200 Colonial Way, Edina, MN.
If so desired, memorial gifts may be made in Tom's name to Meetinghouse Church or to
