Thomas Steen, 68, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2022 at home in Indianola, IA. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, July 29, 2022 at First Assembly of God Church with burial following in the Indianola IOOF Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Tom Steen was born January 13, 1954. He was a man who always had a career project to work on. He graduated from Indianola High School, tops in his class. He continued his education at the University of Iowa where he played for the baseball team as a pitcher. Upon graduation in 1976, he tried out with the Houston Astros and was signed to a one season farm team contract. Due to the boredom he felt and the many road trips by bus, he chose to not sign to move up to the single A. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota. He and Michelle had their first child, Aaron, while in Minneapolis.
Tom might be the only person known who could be taking a nap and receive phone calls with job offers. His first job after receiving his Masters of Business was with Dane Bosworth which took him back to the Iowa City area, where they lived in North Liberty.
Two years later, a college friend contacted him to apply for a position in Burlington, Iowa, with Bell Investment Co. While in Burlington, son, Adam and daughter, Hannah were born.
After nine years in Burlington, Tom moved his family back to Indianola due to starting his own company called Cybus Capital Markets. In the years that followed, Adam and Hannah joined him in the business he started, called Transitional Capital Management.
Upon retiring, Tom began working with Hunting Lease Network out of Omaha. Representing landowners, he would arrange leases for hunters in any of the counties in Iowa. Recently this business was transferred to Aaron and his wife Ashley.
Tom accepted Christ in 2002 and never regretted the decision. He would be the first to tell you that dying is the most "religious" thing you will ever do. Know that your spirit will go to Heaven by accepting Christ as your savior.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle; children, Aaron (Ashley) Steen, Adam (Kasey) Steen and Hannah (Randy Stuart) Steen; grandchildren, Charlie James Steen, Chloe Ellen Steen, Ryker James Steen, Maverick Kai Steen; father, Charles Edward Steen; brother, Terry (Julie) Steen; and mother-in-law Pat Fetters; brother-in-law Scott (Kelley) Fetters; nieces Madelyn Hong and Ashlee Fetters; and nephew, Jason Steen. He was preceded in death by his mother Connie Steen and father-in-law Jim Fetters.
Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, July 28, at the church. In lieu of flowers, Donations may be mailed to Short Years Partnership, 515 N Jefferson Way Suite F, Indianola, Iowa 50125. Designate Child Abuse Prevention. For a tax deduction the tax ID is 20-8621440
