Thomas Paul VandenHeuvel

Thomas Paul VandenHeuvel of Grand Haven, Michigan passed away unexpectedly at the age of 74, doing what he enjoyed. Tom was born to Francis and Jane (Vidro) VandenHeuvel on September 13,1947 in Sparta, MI. As captain of his family, Tom is now navigating the waters of eternal life. Surviving are his four loving daughters, Rosemary (Troy) McKenney, Molly (Mike Shaffer) Austin, Melanie Mayse, and Mindy (David) Duch; grandchildren, Brandon (Mandi) McKenney, Brittney (Travis) Bambacht, Brianna (Steven) Johnson, Alexandria Austin, Ashley Austin, Rylee Mayse, Garret Mayse, Abby Rose Duch and Violet Duch; great grandchildren, Brantley, Skylar, Jaxon, Ryver, Kohen, Jovie and Eastyn; three sisters, Joy (Chuck) Rowland, Jerry (Tom) Pieper, and Wendy(Gordy) Hansen; his dearest Co Captain, Monica Erickson, and many nieces, nephews, friends and family members. He was preceded in death by both parents, Francis and Jane; sister, Bonnie; and brother, Nick. As we pray for Tom's soul to have smooth sailing to the Kingdom of God, we hope he knows the peace and calm waters he has brought to our hearts.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Ottawa county Marine Department and the detective with the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety for their care and compassion towards Tom and his family. There will be a time of public visitation from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at North Ridge Funeral Home, 88 E Division Street, Sparta, MI 49345. A praying of the rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. following visitation. The funeral mass with military honors will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Holy Family Parish, 425 S State St, Sparta, MI 49345. There will be a one-hour visitation prior to the funeral mass. Rev. Msgr. Terrence L. Stewart will be presiding. Following there will be a luncheon at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 186 E Division Street, Sparta, MI 49345. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to offer expressions of sympathy are encouraged to make a memorial contribution to the American Legion Post #28 Grand Haven, MI 700 S Harbor Dr, Grand Haven, MI 49417.
