Thomas Robert Weiss, a beloved figure in the world of Minor League Baseball, passed away on July 7, 2024, after a valiant battle with COPD at his home in Copperas Cove, TX. He was born on February5, 1950, in Bronx, NY, to Robert and Adele Weiss.
Thomas dedicated an impressive 30 years of his life to Minor League Baseball as an umpire officiating games at various levels including AAA, AA, A leagues, and numerous collegiate events. Additionally, he spent 16 years ensuring safety as a security guard at St. John's University. His passion for baseball shone through in everything he did; it was said that he never "worked a day" in his life due to his love for the sport.
In his personal life, Thomas was known as a loving father and adoring husband who always made sure everyone felt included and brought brightness to those around him. He took great pride in his family and cherished moments spent with them. He married his lovely wife Doreen on June 13, 2000 after falling head over heels in love with each other and knowing each other had found their soul mate.
One of Thomas's proudest accomplishments was earning the title of the "King of Corn," which he wore with dignity and joy. His enthusiasm for life and dedication to his passions left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Thomas is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, Doreen Weiss; his father Robert Weiss; siblings William (and wife Danielle), Richard, Christine (and husband Robert); children Brian (and wife Vanessa), Corinne (and husband Steven), Ashley (and husband David), Mindy, Chris (and wife April); along with 18 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and a cherished feline companion named Cheetah.
He is preceded in death by his mother Adele Weiss, son Jason, and dearly loved pet Spanky.
A memorial service to celebrate Thomas's life will be held on July 17, 2024, at the Copperas Cove Location (1614 S FM 116) in Copperas Cove, TX. The service will commence at 11:00 AM and conclude at noon to honor the memory of a remarkable man who touched the lives of many.
