Thomas Weston Obituary

COVENTRY

Thomas Edward Weston (January 15, 1957 November 27, 2025) of Coventry, CT and Crystal River, FL

Tom lost his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer after being diagnosed in September 2024 while in Budapest, Hungary.

He leaves behind his wife of 42 years, JanMarie Blinn Weston, sons, Matthew and Gregory, daughter-in-law, Emily, brother, Barry, sisters, Karen Gazzillo, Sue Smith, Terry Roach, and their spouses, sisters-in-law, Polly, Shirley, Linda, and Isolde, and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Barrett and Ruth (Sidney) Weston, and brothers, David, Daniel, Bruce, and Robert.

A 1975 graduate of Granby Memorial High School, Tom attended Uconn graduating in 1979 with a degree in physical therapy. After graduation he worked as a physical therapist at the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT before joining the athletic department at UConn.

Tom had a tremendous love for sports working for 40 years in the athletic department at UConn as the assistant then travel manager, often traveling with both the men's and women's basketball teams to Final Four Championships. He spent decades as a softball umpire for the Willi MAC league and became a member of their Hall of Fame in 2011. He also refereed youth soccer for many years.

Additionally, Tom and a group of other athletically minded friends formed Timing is Everything, a small business which ran the time clock, kept stats, possession arrow, etc., for college basketball and football games, soccer and hockey matches, field hockey and other sports. For many years Tom also ran the scoreboards for the Hartford Wolf Pack and the Hartford Yard Goats.

After retirement, Tom and Jan moved to Florida where they became involved with Save Crystal River and served as volunteers at the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge, educating the public about and protecting manatees. Paddling with manatees always brought Tom peace and happiness.

A celebration of life will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic, CT on Monday, December 8, 2025. Friends and family are asked to wear UConn blue and white.

In lieu for flowers donations can be made to the World Central Kitchen, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, or to the Thomas Weston RPT 79 BS-PT Men's Basketball Scholarship Fund at UConn (Checks made payable to the Uconn Foundation, Inc. can be mailed to: The UConn Foundation, Inc., Attn: Gift and Pledge Management, 2390 Alumni Dr., Unit 3206, Storrs, CT 06269-3206).
