Thomas "Tommy" D. Young, of Old Monroe, passed away at his residence on Friday, July 4, 2025, at the age of 60. Born and raised in
Troy, MO, Tommy was a proud graduate of Troy Buchanan High School. Over the course of his life, he held many roles-from running his own electronics businesses to driving his own dump truck. But his greatest passion was always racing. He spent countless hours in his garage building and fine-tuning his race cars, truly living out his "need for speed." He looked forward to running his newest race car, Detox, already breaking his personal best runs. Racing wasn't just a hobby, it was a way of life, that he joyfully passed down to his sons.
Tommy had a deep love for sports and excelled in nearly all of them, including golf, tennis, basketball, softball, track and football, even barrel racing. As "Coach Tommy", he dedicated his time to training and mentoring countless young athletes, always emphasizing passion and heart over just winning. His daughters both thrived in basketball under his guidance, and he was proudly continuing his sports legacy with his grandchildren. Always cheering them on as their biggest fan, or offering the kind of honest advice only he could give.
Those who knew Tommy will remember his infectious smile, his love of loud music, his great storytelling and his unshakable willingness to help others. He never met a stranger and left an impression wherever he went. One of his greatest joys in recent years was traveling with his daughter, Jayla to her basketball tournaments, cheering her on in places like Louisville and Chicago. Tommy's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched-with his hands, his heart, and his unforgettable spirit. Tommy left his children with simple, yet powerful words of advice: "You'll be alright."
He is survived by his significant other and partner in life, Sandy Freise of Old Monroe, and his beloved children: Brandon Freise of Old Monroe, Jenna (Josh) Cockrell of Wentzville, Jeffrey (Alyssa) Roche of Hermann, and Jayla Young of O'Fallon. Tommy was a proud and devoted grandfather to Kenlee and Kendall Freise, Skylar and Myles Cockrell, Mason Roche, and Brylie Haver. He leaves behind nieces, nephews, countless relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie "Bully" Moore and one brother, Terry "Boat" Young.
In keeping with his wishes, Tommy will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2025, 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (casual attire) at Redemption Ranch, 77 Redemption Road, Winfield, MO, 63389.
