Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory - OwensboroThurman J. Evans, born on March 30, 1930, in Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his home on August 25, 2025. He lived a life marked by service, creativity, and a deep devotion to his family and faith.
Thurman was a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a dedication that reflected his commitment to his country and his fellow citizens. After returning from his military service, he pursued a successful career as a mechanical designer, a profession that he enjoyed until his retirement in 1998.
Throughout his life, Thurman embodied a true love for learning and creativity. He was not only a mechanical designer but also a gifted artist, inventor, and tinkerer, often exploring new ideas and bringing them to life. He had a passionate curiosity about sailing, frequently dreaming of repairing and restoring his little blue sailboat—a testament to his adventurous spirit. He also cherished his red Mustang, a symbol of his zest for life and an embodiment of his attention to detail and passion for craftsmanship. A devoted man of faith, Thurman was a member of First Baptist Church, he found solace in reading his Bible and living a life aligned with his beliefs. He cherished moments spent with his family, always prioritizing their well-being and happiness. His legacy is one of kindness and generosity, as he was always eager to lend a helping hand to others in need.
Thurman is preceded in death by his parents, Onis and Polly Evans; and four brothers, James Robert Evans, Eugene Evans, Marion Evans and Charles Evans.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of over 50 years, Glenda Evans; children, Tara Dembowczyk (Brian) and Todd Evans (Danielle); grandchildren, Joshua Dembowczyk, Hannah Dembowczyk, Caleb Dembowczyk, Seren Evans and Zavi Evans; brother-in-law, Keith McCamish (Josie); sister-in-law, Jelaine McCamish; as well as many precious nieces and nephews.
A visitation in remembrance of Thurman will be held at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory from 1 PM until 3 PM on Saturday, September 6.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathen’s Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42303.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Hospice, who they grew to love in the last year and a half while they took such good care of Thurman.
