Tina Renee Icenogle, Indianapolis, passed away at her home on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at age 52. Tina is survived by her parents, Roy Charles Icenogle and Marcia ("Marti") Icenogle, and her godson, Ridley Mitchison.
Tina was born June 24, 1971, in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. She graduated from North Central High School in 1989 and continued her studies at Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis, graduating with a BS in general studies in 1998. Tina later returned to school, completing her BSN at Indiana University School of Nursing, IUPUI, in 2010.
This career choice was a bit of a mystery to those who knew her best because of her well-known aversion toward adults and children alike, yet she proved to be brilliant with both. Tina loved being a nurse. At the time of her death, she was working as a registered nurse in the Medical Progressive Care Unit (MPCU) at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.
Tina was also an artist. She created custom jewelry designs in glass and silver. She and her mother were partners in Magickal Dragon Designs, selling jewelry at local art fairs and online from 1999 to 2009. In addition to making jewelry, Tina taught basic jewelry classes for children and adults.
Tina loved her friends and was happiest when she was able to do something to help them. If one of them was in need, she never hesitated to do what she could, from acquiring a truck, to ER runs, to just being present. The best memories from her friends are of them gathered around a table or living room, just talking and laughing for hours. With a cheese ball, preferably, and many cans of Diet Mountain Dew. Her most notorious trait was her unapologetic, deadpan honesty. She would tell you exactly what she thought about someone or something with zero hesitation and without ever being mean about it. This made her invaluable as a confidant and advisor.
Tina was an enthusiastic Disney fan, having worked at the Disney Store in her 20s, where she met two of her lifelong friends. Her favorites were the villains, especially Maleficent and Ursula. For many years, she collected Disney memorabilia, and she loved the theme parks, even visiting the one in Paris. Tina also enjoyed herbal-y things (lemongrass being her favorite), semi-precious stones, documentaries, and steak.
She was also a life-long animal lover-a self-proclaimed cat lady-and she freely admitted that her pets were spoiled. Pixie, her snow-white fluffy kitty, misses Tina very much and is doing her best to comfort Tina's mom.
Tina was also an avid reader, but above all a Harry Potter fan, having re-read the books and re-watched the movies many times, and she even attended a couple Harry Potter conventions. One of her favorite quotes was from Albus Dumbledore: "After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure."
The family is planning a private Celebration of Life with her friends to be scheduled later. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Tina's memory to the Southside Animal Shelter or any other animal shelter or rescue to honor her love of animals.
