Todd Fellars Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 10 to Aug. 14, 2023.
On August 8, 2023, Todd Allen Fellars, 52, beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend peacefully passed away after a 13-month battle with Glioblastoma.

Todd was born January 23, 1971 in Montebello, California, to Mary Gail McKeon Fellars and the late Donald George Fellars. He is the third oldest of eight children. Todd was a happy child, easy-going, friendly and athletic, setting high school basketball records at Rancho Buena Vista High School. After graduating in 1989, he attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah for one year. He then went on to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Oklahoma Tulsa Mission for two years. Following his mission, Todd earned his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Missouri. He practiced physical therapy for two years, after which he decided to pursue an MBA from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Upon completion of his MBA, Todd enrolled in the US Navy as an officer and was accepted into medical school at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. It was during medical school that Todd met the love of his life, Erika Wallin and they were married on October 1, 2004. In April of 2006, they welcomed twins, Lauren and Kate, and then Megan in June of 2012. Todd loved being a dad to his three girls.

After medical school graduation, Todd completed an intern year at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. He then served with the Marines in Iraq for 7 months. Upon his return home, Todd went on to complete orthopaedic surgery residency at NMCSD. From there he completed a one-year fellowship at Brown University. For the last 10 years, Todd was a staff surgeon at NMCSD and enjoyed treating service members and their families, as well as treating the SEAL team in Coronado, California, and deploying on the USNS Mercy during COVID.

Throughout his adult years, between extensive schooling and managing life, Todd also trained for and completed 5 Ironman competitions. In Todd's words, "Finishing is winning." This is a motto he lived by his entire life.

Todd's greatest joy was spending time with his wife and daughters. Many memories were made together as they traveled, surfed on the family boat, hiked together, and attended Padres games. Todd loved attending his girls' sporting or dance events and would usually offer up words of encouragement, or some advice for improvement at the end of each event. He was their biggest cheerleader.

A life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Todd had a deep rooted testimony of his Savior Jesus Christ. This was evident in everything he did. He was a man of strong character and integrity, always giving thanks to God for his many blessings.

Todd is preceded in death by his father, Donald Fellars. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Erika; his three daughters, Lauren, Kate and Megan; his mother, Mary Fellars; and seven siblings - Allyson, Tim, Jennifer, David Max, Dan, Donnie and C.J.

The Fellars family would like to thank the many loved ones in their family, community, church and NMCSD orthopaedic surgery department who showed love and support for them at this difficult time. The family would also like to thank the neurosurgery and neuro oncology teams at Massachusetts General Hospital and UCSD, as well as the hospice nurses who helped care for Todd in his final days.

The funeral service will be held Friday, August 18, 2023 at 11 am at the LDS church located at 15750 Bernardo Heights Parkway, San Diego, California.

A viewing will be held prior to the funeral on Friday, August 18 from 9:30-10:30 am. Todd will be buried at the San Marcos Cemetery.
