Todd A. Shackle, a well-loved, gentle, and accomplished young man, died on Monday, January 20, 2025, in McDonald, Pa. He was 38 years of age.
Born on June 18, 1986, Todd grew up in Moon Township, where many of his friendships began – cherished connections that have lasted through the decades until today. From an early time, Todd loved sports and the outdoors, enjoying roller hockey, ice skating, and fun pranks. As an adult, he was an avid snowboarder and golfer (a sport in which he was a patient teacher to others seeking to learn golf strokes).
From his high school years, Todd demonstrated a keen interest in business. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in December of 2012, at Robert Morris University in Moon. Todd became a successful Realtor for a number of years. He worked first with the Jeremy Pronto team at Berkshire Hathaway and then continued with Jeremy's team at RE-MAX Select Realty.
Todd became knowledgeable about the incredible, diverse neighborhoods and towns of the Pittsburgh area and was drawn to the investment, rehabilitation, and renovation of houses. This manifested itself both in his own property and in a new business. He purchased a lovely home in Dormont and learned and mastered many construction ins and outs to renovate it. Todd partnered with his lifelong friend and business associate Charles William "Chaz" Story Jr. to form CSTS Contracting. The firm has done a wide variety of renovations and projects such as kitchen and bathroom remodeling, decks, landscaping such as beehive garden setups, and more.
Survivors include his parents, Peter Shackle and Charlene DeMark Shackle of Moon; his beloved dog, Levi; his aunt and uncle, Rosemary and Bill Roberts, of Williamsburg, Va., and Moultonborough, N.H.; his aunt, Susan DeMark, of New Paltz, N.Y.; and many wonderful cousins in his extended family and dear friends.
Todd was a loving son and family member and a caring, generous friend. He had a quick wit and (at times dark) sense of humor. One of his best friends who has known Todd since he was 7 said that Todd "was the gentlest man I ever knew." Given Todd's untimely death, another close lifelong friend said that he "was trying to think more about the laughs and smiles I shared with him." In that spirit, the family hopes that the committal service for Todd on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 1 p.m. will not only honor Todd's life and spirit but provide solace and strength to those who grieve his passage. Todd will continue to live in our hearts as we hold him there, knowing that Todd is in a gentle realm of peace.
Friends and family are invited to attend a committal service, to honor Todd's life, that will be held in Sewickley Cemetery's chapel on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 1 p.m.
Todd believed in choice and to honor his wishes, the family suggests donations to one of the three charities in Todd's honor: Paws Across Pittsburgh, Kindred Spirits Rescue Ranch, or Live 4 Tomorrow Today. Please see the links to the charity sites at the bottom of the page. The family gratefully declines any flowers. Arrangements are entrusted to RICHARD D. COLE FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 1316 4th Avenue, Coraopolis, PA 15108.
