Tom Nuckels

Tommy Dale Nuckels, born on June 18, 1955, in Point Comfort, Texas, was sent to his eternal home on February 13, 2025. He was a beloved husband, brother, father, and grandfather, and a blessing to his family and friends.
Tom, as he was known to his loved ones, was a shining light in the lives of each person who had the privilege of knowing him. His time on earth was defined by love, compassion, and an unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a deep emptiness in the hearts of his family and friends. We ask that you remember his love of family, his infectious laughter, the joyful spirit he embodied, and the lasting impact he had on the many lives he touched.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Janice Nuckels; his brother, Larry, and sister-in-law, Barbara; and his children, Jonathan, Phillip, Izabella, and Michael. He was the cherished "Pop Pop" to Freddie and Sofia Nuckels. He also leaves behind extended family who loved him dearly. Among them are Fred and Alice Kaufman, Judy Haskin, Steven and Jill Kaufman, Michelle Haskin and Mustafa Tunc, Kristan Kaufman, Rob and Lydia Eby, David and Jennifer Nuckels, Keith and Lisa Lempa, Richard II and Mary Nuckels, Elizabeth Nuckels, Clara and Chris Luke, and Jared Nuckels. He was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Martha Nuckels; his brother, Richard Nuckels; and his brother-in-law, Michael Haskin.
After graduating from Calhoun High School, Tom embarked on a journey to spread the message of God's love. For over 30 years, he preached ministry in Bloomington, Texas; Colombia, South America; Hood River, Oregon; and Elgin, Texas. In recent years, he served as the Director of Spiritual Care for Lifeline Chaplaincy, supporting grieving families. Tom felt called and honored to companion others in the sacred spaces of their lives as they journey through difficult times. Tom deepened his ministry practice through lifelong learning and achieved graduate and doctoral degrees from Pepperdine University and the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, respectively. His unwavering dedication to his faith and his heartfelt desire to bring joy to others represented his loving and generous spirit.
Outside of his ministry, Tom found joy in his family, music, and the outdoors. He had a natural curiosity and an ability to cherish the beauty in each day. A devoted husband, brother, father, and grandfather, Tom found immense joy in time spent with family, shared over meals and cups of coffee, around the domino table, and sitting on fishing docks and back porches. He enjoyed leading the congregation in hymns, participating in choir groups, and singing with his grandchildren. Tom's passion for the outdoors brought countless adventures and cherished memories, from fishing and camping to swimming in the ocean, and his lifelong curiosity yielded adventures in chicken and beekeeping. His rich life was enhanced by a deep appreciation for every day, savoring each cup of coffee, hug with family, and sunset.
All those who knew Tom will remember his deep love for people, especially his family; his playful and warm personality; his faith in God; and his unwavering to commitment to spreading love and joy to everyone he met. Though Tom's physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May we honor his legacy of love and compassion in our lives, may we seek to find joy in each day, may we remember his humor and warm embrace, may we cherish time spent with family, and may his memory remain a blessing in our lives.
Tom's family welcomes loved ones to the Georgetown Church of Christ at 1525 W University Ave, Georgetown, Texas 78628, on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 10:00am, to celebrate Tom's life.
