Tommie Louise Boothe

Tommie Louise Boothe (Mitchell), of Brierfield, Alabama passed away on Sunday, August 17,2025 surrounded by her loving family. Tommie was born April 8, 1949, in Marion, Alabama. Though she was the youngest of 12 children, she was always a caretaker. Even after they were all grown with families of their own; her siblings always had a place to come for comfort, advice, or a warm bed. Tommie grew up in Heiberger, Alabama, where she attended Elementary and some of middle school before moving forward with her GED. With 12 children in southern Alabama, life had its hardships but Tommie, always the fighter, was determined to make something of herself. She graduated from the University of Alabama in Gadsden with a business degree. In 1967 her first child was born, quickly followed by her baby boy in 1968. In 1973 while single handedly raising two small children; Tommie attended cosmetology school. For the next 17 years she spent working her fingers to the bone to keep a roof over their heads and food in their mouths. Finally, in 1990 Tommie opened Mitchell's Barber Shop, adding on and opening a full salon by 1992. Mitchell's was not just a business to Tommie, it was a life source. Not only did she make her living, she gave countless others a chance to get on their feet and work for themselves; including her children and grandchildren. In fact, anyone who she hired immediately became family. Mitchell's was often used as a day care, a party venue, a place to grieve, and even a church. Whether the day was good or bad, if you needed a haircut or just a listening ear, Tommie was there with a smile on her face and the ability to put anyone's mind at ease.
The first grandchild came in 1986 followed by three more in 1990, 1991, and 1992. Being a "Nanny" seemed like who she was meant to be. On May 16, 2000, Tommie married Isaac Boothe Jr, and with him came four stepchildren and even more grandchildren. "Nanny" loved them all as if they were her own. She loved taking them camping, to the lake, to the beach, or just exploring. Together she and Ike created memories that will be shared for generations to come. As the grandchildren grew and great-grands began to come along Tommie and Ike took some time to themselves. They loved to travel and she often said he was the perfect travel companion. She especially loved travelling North in the fall to see the leaves turn, or taking weeks long cross-country trips, they made it to the Redwood Forest, the Grand Canyon, and even made a stop in Vegas. Tommie was famous for her holiday celebrations, whether it was bonfires and hayrides for Halloween, huge Thanksgivings with enough to feed a hundred people, or solemn Christmas Eve's spent with the entire family reading Luke and opening gifts; She was always the host and in many ways the glue that held her big mismatched family together. Tommie instilled many things into her family, a high set of morals, an undeniable work ethic, and a love for Jesus Christ. She spent time every night reading from her bible and continually developed her relationship with the Lord.
Tommie will join in Heaven her long missed son, Joseph Dewayne Warren; dear friend, Ida Ruth Alexander (Tootie); parents, Mary Ann and Thurman Mitchell; brothers, JT Colburn, Luther Colburn, Hoover Colburn, William Jack Mitchell, and Thurman "Junior" Mitchell; and sisters, Deani Holladay, Betty Pierce, and Lilly Trott.
Left behind to cherish her memory is her beloved husband of 25 years, Isaac Boothe Jr.; daughter, Tammy Smith (Mark); stepchildren; Lisa Boothe (Jamie), Isaac Boothe III (Renee), Jesse Boothe (Crystal), and Jessica Boothe; sisters, Nelie Mitchell and Jane Mace (Boyce);grandchildren, Tiffany Howard (Ryan), Andrea Beasley (Josh), Lindsey Hendrix, Joseph Ryan Warren, and Kendall Smith; great- grandchildren, Vincent Davis, and Kennedi Howard. Tommie also leaves behind 13 step grandchildren, and 11 step great grandchildren, with more on the way; daughter-in-law Sonya Warren Bertschinger (Jeff), too many nieces and nephews to count, and of course her "girls" at the beauty shop.
Tommie went by many titles: wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, teacher, but most importantly friend. Between her kind disposition, generous nature, and just that touch of mischief in her eye, you could not help but love her. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and community.
Services will be held at Charter Funeral Home in Calera on Tuesday, August 19,2025, with a time of visitation to begin at 12:30 p.m. until her service time starting at 2:30 p.m. Following the service she will be laid to rest in Moores Cemetery in Montevallo.
