Tommy Chakeres

Tommy Chakeres, 82, of Brick, NJ passed away peacefully, on August 18, 2025 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 7, 1943 to John and Efthemia Chakeres of Greece, in Newark, NJ. Tommy graduated from Weequahic High School in Newark and continued on to Evangel University in Missouri where he studied business.

Shortly after, Tommy was drafted into the U.S. Army where he proudly served from 1965 to 1967 before his honorable discharge. He went on to continue serving the community by becoming a police officer for Irvington Police Department where he dedicated 25 years of service before his retirement in 2002. He received several accolades and multiple recognitions for his time served.

Tommy loved the ocean, beach and pridefully working on his tan. He enjoyed playing Texas Hold 'Em, going to Atlantic City, eating his favorite foods (Italian hot dogs, wings, calamari, clams, oysters and crabs), watching the Yankees and Giants and most significantly and importantly, he was a doting father and grandfather. The unwavering love he poured into his family was so profound. Tommy had the warmest smile, the best hugs and the kindest soul.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Tommy is survived by his loving spouse of 42 years, Doris Chakeres; his daughter Cheryl VanSalisbury; his son John T. Chakeres and his wife Lisa; his daughter Kristyn Carrozzino and her husband Ron; his grandchildren Alexis VanSalisbury and Sophia Barba, Sienah Carrozino and Gabriella "Gabs" Carrozzino; Thomas John "T.J." Chakeres and Elliana "Ellie" Chakeres, his siblings William Chakeres, Catherine Lane and his twin sister Julie Georgiades; as well as his beloved nieces and nephew.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sweetheart granddaughter, Gianna Chakeres.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm, with a funeral service beginning at 3:30pm at Silverton Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 2482 Church Road, Toms River, NJ 08723.
