Tony Layton Obituary
Published by Legacy on Aug. 25, 2025.
Tony Dewayne Layton was a beacon of love, faith, and unwavering devotion. At 63 years old, he peacefully left this world on August 25th, 2025, in the comforting embrace of his home, surrounded by the family and friends who adored him. His gentle spirit and steadfast faith carried him through a long, courageous battle with cancer, and even in his final days, his heart was set on touching others with the love of Jesus.
Tony was a soul deeply committed to his family-an incredible husband, a devoted father, and a loving papa whose heart overflowed with love and kindness. Born on May 25th, 1962, he graduated from Ashville High School in 1980, a milestone that marked the beginning of a life dedicated to purpose and service. Just a few months later, on November 7th, 1980, he married his high school sweetheart, Gloria-his soulmate, his partner in life, and his greatest blessing. For nearly 45 years, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams.
He was a hardworking machine operator at Trinity Industries, but his true calling went far beyond the factory walls. Tony's heart was set on shining the light of Jesus into the world. In 2000, he answered God's call to become an ordained minister. From that moment on, he journeyed wherever the Lord led him-pastoring hearts, spreading hope, and pouring out his love to those in need. For over 12 years, he served as the pastor of Red Hill Baptist Church in Springville, Alabama-a family he loved dearly. Under his guidance, the church became a beacon of hope, reaching out to serve their community and demonstrate the boundless love of Jesus in every action.
Throughout his battle with cancer, Tony's faith remained unshaken. His courage and trust in God inspired all who knew him. Even in his suffering, he used his journey to share the message of Jesus, never missing an opportunity-whether with friends or strangers alike-to tell someone about the Savior's love. His life was a testament to the power of faith and the beauty of unwavering hope.
He loved sharing meals, exploring nature through hunting and fishing, and soaking up the simple, precious moments that made life so meaningful.
Tony was preceded in death by his father, Rev. James Allen Layton and his mother, Catherine Layton, and by his brother, Greg Layton.
Tony's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Walker Layton, to whom his heart belonged; his daughter Denise Bell (John); son, Daniel Layton (Kaitlyn); grandchildren, each one cherished beyond words: Malea Bell, Hunter Layton, and Gavin Layton; brothers, Allen Layton and Tommy Layton; sister, Pam Layton; a special nephew who was like a son, Brian Layton; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Usrey Funeral Home - Pell City from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
