Tony Mendicki, 75, longtime Parsons resident, died at 7:11 A.M., Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Labette Health. Among survivors is his wife, Vicki, of the home.
He was born Halloween 1948 at Pittsburg, a son of Anthony Allen, Sr. and Sadie Lorene (Hume) Mendicki. He and his family lived in Mulberry until he moving to Parsons to begin the Second Grade. He attended school at Parsons and graduated from the Parsons High School with the Class of 1966. He then attended the Parsons Junior College and received an Associate in Industrial Arts in 1968. He then attended Pittsburg State University and majored in Industrial Arts. He enlisted in the National Guard in 1970 and spent that summer at Ft. Polk, LA in Basic Training. He then returned to Parsons and continued service in the Kansas National Guard, based in Chanute. He was first employed at Adventure Line (now Ducommon) and then worked twenty-seven years at Ruskin Manufacturing, both in Parsons and later Galesburg, where he was a Quality Control Inspector. He later was employed at Power Flame as a Q.C. Inspector for twenty years, retiring in 2018.
He was united in marriage to Vicki Lynn Jolly on November 14, 1970 at the former Central Avenue Christian Church at Parsons. She survives of the home.
He was a former member of the Central Avenue Christian Church which later became First Christian and was currently a member of the First Baptist Church. In past years, he was a member of the choir at each church and taught Sunday school classes. Tony never met a stranger that he could not start a conversation with. Throughout all the years of his life, spending time with his family and friends and was his greatest pleasure.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son – Marty Mendicki, and his companion, Jennifer Dawson, Parsons, KS; one daughter – Gina Pearson, and her husband, Tim, Rural Parsons, KS; two grandchildren – Anthony Pearson, Manhattan, KS, Lucy Pearson, Rural Parsons, KS; one sister – Karen Forbes, Overland Park, KS; one sister in-law – Sharon Vaughn, Austin, TX; four nephews – Bryan Vaughn, Salina, KS, Chris Vaughn, Long Beach, CA., Jason Vaughn, Summerville, SC, Kevin Forbes, Overland Park, KS; two nieces – Kyra Floyd, Overland Park, KS, Shannon Peterson, Austin, TX; lifelong friends – Roger Duroni, Parsons, KS, Dale Cooper, Rural Erie, KS, David Forbes, Parsons, KS, John Cole, Parsons, KS.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, October28, 2024 at the First Baptist Church with Reverends Travis Ball and Jennifer Dawson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 Sunday evening at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church or to Gideons International.
