Torray Sullivan was born on February 15, 1963, the oldest child of the late Morris and Beatrice Lee. She grew up on Cunard Road in North Buffalo, and the family also resided on Deerfield Street in the Delevan–Grider neighborhood.
A proud PK (Preacher’s Kid), Torray accepted Christ at an early age, laying the foundation for a life rooted in faith. She was educated in the Buffalo Public School System and graduated from McKinley High School.
In 1979, God saw fit to bless Torray with her firstborn daughter, Lorenda Hunley, who brought immense joy into her life. In 1988, Torray relocated to Rochester, New York, where she later met her husband, Dennis Gerald Sullivan, on September 10, 1994. Through their union, Torray was blessed with bonus children whom she loved dearly as her own: Shawnreca Sullivan, Keisha Sullivan, Monique Sullivan, and Terrence Prather. In 2001, God further blessed Torray and Gerald with their daughter, Deness Sullivan, bringing even more joy and happiness to their union.
If you knew Torray, you knew her signature traits. She was an avid thumb-sucker, always impeccably color-coordinated, and thoroughly enjoyed shopping. She was an avid reader and loved watching mystery shows such as Unsolved Mysteries, Snapped, and Dateline.
Torray worked faithfully as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for 42 years until her health began to decline. She deeply loved her family. Her cousins were her siblings, and she never used the word “step”—her bonus blessings were simply her children.
Torray was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Gerald Sullivan; daughters Shawnreca Sullivan and Keisha Sullivan; her parents, Morris and Beatrice Lee; Lynette Sullivan; uncles Willie Lowe and Charles Hay-wood; sisters Claudia “Chi Chi” Hoosier, Rhonda Lee, and Rosemary “Pooh” Sullivan; and grandparents Wil-helmina Postelle and Ruth Haywood.
Fond memories will forever be cherished by her daughters Lorenda Hunley, Deness Sullivan, and Monique Sullivan; her son Terrence Prather; her brother Terry Lee; her grandchildren Jamina Ferrell, Jaliyah Ferrell, Steven Ferrell Jr., Asani Miles, Tahtionna Prather, Legacy Prather, and Jaxon Figueroa; her aunts Celeste Lowe, Arlene Young, Fannie (James) Robinson, and Linda Richardson; her uncle Darnell Haywood; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service will be held 11-1pm January 9, 2026 at Unity Baptist Church 183 Sycamore Street Buffalo, NY 14204
