Tracie Louise Smith West, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025, in her hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee, at the age of 55. She was born on April 24, 1970, to the late Paul Wayne Smith Sr. and Brenda Sue Chauncey, who precede her in death alongside her cherished sisters, Paula M. Smith and Megan Neal.
Tracie's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, laughter, and devotion to her family. She was married to her loving husband, Derek Paige West, on July 1, 1988. Together, they created a home filled with warmth and affection for their four wonderful children: Jessica Paige West, Alisha Nicole West, Joshua Keith West, and Nicholas Ryan West.
Tracie's commitment to her family was unwavering, and she was a guiding light for her children, instilling in them the values of love, compassion, and resilience.
Tracie attended East Ridge High School and worked diligently at BI-LO grocery store for over six years.
However, her most treasured role was as a devoted homemaker, where she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to raising her children and nurturing their dreams. Tracie's laughter and sense of humor made every moment spent with her a joy, earning her a cherished place in the hearts of all who knew her.
She was known for her sarcasm and wit, which could bring a smile to anyone's face, even in the toughest of times.
A woman of faith, Tracie was deeply rooted in her Catholic Christian beliefs, which guided her through life and shaped her values. She loved to express herself through art, finding joy in coloring, painting, and creating unique designs. Additionally, she cherished playing games and watching movies with her family, moments that formed lasting memories and strengthened their bonds.
Tracie's legacy extends beyond her immediate family. She is survived by her husband Derek, her children, and her beloved grandson, Isaiah Bart West, who brought immense joy to her life. She leaves behind a large family network, including Paul Wayne Smith Jr. (Krystal) of Sebring, FL, James Edward Smith (Norma) of
Rossville, GA, Lindsey Smith (Brandon) of Ringgold, GA, Danielle Smith (Melissa) of Yarmouth, MA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
Tracie's life, though impacted by the pain of liver failure, was marked by the love she shared and the indelible impact she made on those around her. She was perfect in her imperfections, a trait that endeared her to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her presence could light the darkest corners, and her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
A private funeral service will take place to honor Tracie's life and legacy.
