Travis Curtis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Young Gilbert Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. - Algonac on Jun. 1, 2025.
Travis Curtis, age 51, of Marine City passed away on May 29th, 2025 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family, after a very brief, but courageous battle with cancer. He was born on May 10, 1974 to Judith and the late Richard Curtis. Travis was a graduate of Algonac High School. He worked for the City of Grosse Pointe Park as a DPW worker for over 10 years, a job that he loved. Travis married the love of his life, Carrie Rebecca on September 24, 2022. Carrie and her children were by Travis's side every step of the way during his fight with cancer.
Travis was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to be outdoors. From long walks to riding bikes, camping and working in the yard, he found peace in being outside. He and Carrie would frequently kayak local rivers, as well as go on trips with close family and friends. They enjoyed an annual tubing trip with family every summer. Travis cherished the time he got to spend with his family. They also had an annual camping trip up north every Memorial weekend with close friends. Trips to Lake Michigan towns were also a favorite of his. Travis loved going to concerts and music festivals with Carrie and close friends. Travis was a selfless man, who always put others needs before his own. He was proud of his work ethic in being able to assist others. He had a contagious smile, who could light up a room. Travis never met a stranger; he could not go anywhere without running into someone he knew, and his large network of friends is a testament to the incredible man he was. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. His infectious personality and generous spirit will be missed by the countless people who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie Curtis; children, Lucas and Annabelle Measel; mother, Judith Curtis; siblings, Tracy (Bill) Wesley, Troy Curtis; sister-in-law, Nicole (Greg) Schoenborn; mother-in-law, Lucinda (Duane) Phillips; father-in-law, Randy Rebecca; nieces and nephews, William Wesley, Jacob Wesley, Daniel Gore, Alexis Barney and Alyssa Barney, as well as several special extended family members and many friends. He also is survived by his pets Emily, Falcor, Violet and Pepper, who stayed by his side and brought him comfort.
He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Curtis.
Cremation arrangements with Young Funeral Home, China Twp. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. To leave a message of comfort visit www.youngcolonial.com

I knew Travis as my student in middle school in Algonac. As the sweet obituary said he had an infectious personality. He was such a thoughtful gentle soul and yes he never met a stranger.
I recall taking him skiing (with parents permission of course) a few evenings with my friends ski club. He instantly made friends with students from another school.
I would run into Travis on occasion after he was an adult and out was always such a pleasant surprise. Our conversations were always enjoyable and informative as to his current situations. A great young man.
I´m sorry I´ve not replied earlier but I´m just learning about this.

To the Curtis & extended Family, I send my saddest condolences. I met Travis many years ago while bartending, and he was a great guy! He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him

We knew Travis for many years when he was the manager of our local Pizza hut, and he was always pleasant, and a joy to be with.
