Travis Rux was born to Emil and Myrtle (Johnson) Rux in
Aberdeen, SD, on May 26, 1942. He graduated from Aberdeen Central in 1961 and enlisted in the US Navy in July of 1961. Travis spent his Navy years traveling the world and loved to share stories about all of the places he had visited. He was honorably discharged in July of 1965 and he returned to Aberdeen.
It was then that he met Therese Heier while visiting friends upon his return. Travis and Therese were married in Hosmer, SD, on September 19, 1969. They made their home in Aberdeen, where they began Rux Brothers Plumbing and Heating in 1975. Travis worked in houses and buildings all over Aberdeen and the surrounding area, and he'd point out all the places he'd been contracted. He made many friendships during his nearly 40 years as a plumbing contractor, and everyone knew Travis' work was reliable and dependable.
When Travis retired from plumbing, his hobbies continued to be "work." He owned rental properties in Aberdeen and was always finding projects to keep him busy.
Travis' proudest titles were husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his children and grandchildren fiercely. Travis was a true provider and protector, which led to many great stories his children enjoy recounting. Travis loved dogs, and there was sure to be a loud, happy reunion with his favorite pets when he passed.
Travis will always be remembered as someone who would do anything to help his friends and family. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Therese Rux; his five children: Melissa (Darcy) Schock of
Aberdeen, SD, Michael (Dani) Rux of Harrisburg, SD, Marshall Rux of
Aberdeen, SD, Barbara (Tim) Swisher of
Aberdeen, SD, and Renee (Ben) Forred of Sioux Falls, SD; 11 grandchildren, Emily (Austin) Wimsatt, Allison Schock, Reese Schock, Owen Rux, Collin Swisher, Rachael Swisher, Julia Swisher, Anderson Forred, Elliot Forred, Evelyn Forred, and Grant Forred; and one great-grandchild, Winona Wimsatt. He is also survived by brothers Forest (Marlys) Rux and Tom (Kathy) Rux, and sister Marcia (Del) Preszler.
Travis was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Myrtle Rux; siblings Beverly Boulais, Veda Larson, John Rux, Robert Rux, Roberta Newell, Forestta Remien, Judy Johnston, Deliah Williams, and Delmer Rux; and many in-laws and friends.
