Robert "Tristan" Gray was born March 24, 1980 in Oklahoma City to Bill and Ivellise Gray. He died June 15, 2023 at the Center of Family Love in Okarche, Oklahoma. Tristan had lived at the Center since 2000, where he was cared for and loved.
For those who do not know Tristan's story, he was an active, clever and somewhat mischievous toddler until March 7th, 1982, when he was involved in an automobile crash in Blanchard, Oklahoma, which changed his life and ours forever.
Despite the devastating injuries Tristan received, he remained tough, resilient and sweet for the next forty-one years. He had good sense of humor and maintained a bit of the mischievousness from his childhood. Tristan enjoyed watching the television show COPS. He had a great interest in cars. Tristan enjoyed family gatherings and he especially loved Christmas.
Tristan also had a great memory for names, especially for the many caregivers, teachers, therapists and medical providers who were there for him along the way. He received after-school care at Special Care, Inc, when it was located in The Village, which allowed his parents to continue working and have some normalcy in their lives. Tristan lived at the Center of Family Love for most of his life. He never complained about anything and although there were the occasional holidays spent with his folks, he was always ready to get back to his "apartment" at the Center.
Tristan is survived by his mother, Ivellise Gray of Oklahoma City; his father, Bill Gray and wife (stepmother) Paula Gray of Oklahoma City; his sister Maia Gray and husband Samuel Troxell and two nephews, Connor Gregory Gray and Duncan Tristan Gray, all of Los Lunas, NM; paternal grandmother Gerry Gray ("Oma"); maternal grandmother Maria Utsinger ("Abuela") and husband Bill Utsinger of Lawton, OK; aunts Sonia Lopez Bridgman and husband Pete of Kingston, Oklahoma and Marcy Lopez and husband Tom Tate, of Pensacola, FL; great aunts Gwen Scott of Borger, Texas and Mary Gray of Bentonville, Arkansas, as well as a number of cousins and second cousins.
Memorials may be made to the Center of Family Love, Okarche, Oklahoma.
