Troy E. Roberts, 91, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, December 27, 2024, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Mahan and the Rev. Blane Jacobs officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services in the sanctuary on Tuesday.
Mr. Roberts was born June 11, 1933, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Reason Rafe & Minnie Lou Wheelis Roberts. He was a graduate of Ocilla High School where he stayed an extra year to play football. He was an insurance agent with Liberty National for 35 years. Following his retirement, he worked as a teller for Colony Bank. Mr. Roberts was an avid sports fan who enjoyed coaching and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald.
He is survived by his wife of almost 71 years, Wynona Dean Griffin Roberts of Fitzgerald; children and their spouses: Eddie & Martha Roberts of Lake Park, Tim & Sue Roberts of Live Oak, Florida, Michael & Tammy Roberts of Mayo, Florida, and Susan & Scott Spivey of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Troy & Laura Katherine Roberts, Holly & Eric Wood, Kaylee Roberts, Kristyn & Krishton Neely, Damien & Charli Walker, Len Spivey, Taylor Spivey, and Caroline Spivey; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Hugh & Charlotte Roberts of Ocilla. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: James Barney Roberts, Harmon Lamar Roberts, Ralph Mannin Roberts, Amon Roberts, and W.B. Roberts; and a sister, Margie Horne.
The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the kind and compassionate care given to Mr. Roberts by Jessica and Desiree and all the Traditions Hospice staff.
