Troy Lee Smith, 54, passed January 23, 2025, at Linda White Hospice. He was born to William Lewis and Emma Hansel Lewis on June 13, 1970, in Polk County, Florida. Raised in Detroit, Michigan, he was educated in their school system where he played basketball in high school.
Troy moved to Evansville in 1997 where he met and fell in love with Alea Skelton. They married in 2011 and remained together until his passing.
Troy worked for Tri-state Resources and recycling for more than 12 years. He was a hard-working man who went to work every day no matter how he felt. He enjoyed watching old karate movies, socializing with his friends, and his son’s friends to whom he was fondly known as OG.
Troy was well-loved by everyone and never met a stranger. His love for people was demonstrated by his willingness to give strangers a helping hand or a place to stay.
Troy’s memory will be cherished by his wife, Alea Skelton Smith; children, Troy Smith, Travaye Smith, Triston Smith, Ciamber Quarles, Amyra Smith, Anitra Smith, Trakeisha Smith; 6 grandchildren; siblings, Steve Posey, Willie Posey, Tracey Posey, ShaWanda Posey; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
