Mildred Litherland, a beacon of love and thoughtfulness, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, at the age of 97 in Evansville, IN. Born on December 2, 1927, in Allendale, IL, to Oscar and Mabel McFarland, Mildred's life was a tapestry of devotion to her family, her gardens, and her independence.

Mildred's journey began as the cherished daughter of Oscar and Mabel, growing up with a close-knit family that included her late brother, John McFarland, and late sisters, Lucille Wirth and Mary Baum. She carried the values of love and family closeness throughout her life, which were evident in the warm and inviting home she created.

She found her life partner in Robert Dale Litherland, and together they built a life filled with mutual respect and unwavering support until his passing. Their legacy continued through their devoted son, Bob (Nancy) Litherland, and their beloved daughter, the late Debra (Mike) Kincheloe. Mildred was a pillar of strength and comfort, navigating the challenges of life with grace, including the profound loss of her daughter.

Mildred's role as a grandmother to Rayna Barnett-Smith (Michael) and Christopher Kincheloe was one of her greatest joys. Her love and wisdom were gifts that shaped their lives, and the memories created with her will be treasured forever.

Not one to sit idle, Mildred's passion for the outdoors was evident in the meticulous care she gave to her yard and garden. Her hands, always tender with her beloved flowers, brought beauty to the world around her. Neighbors and friends often stopped to admire the fruits of her labor and left with a piece of her heart.

Those who knew Mildred will remember her as the epitome of loving and thoughtful. She had a natural ability to make others feel valued and heard, and her presence was a comforting embrace in times of need. Her independence was admirable, a trait that inspired many and will continue to do so.

Mildred's legacy of love and beauty will live on through the lives she touched, the gardens she nurtured, and the family she adored. Her spirit, like the flowers she so tenderly cared for, will continue to bloom in the hearts of those who loved her. As we say goodbye to Mildred Litherland, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a woman well-loved. Her memory will be carried on the breeze, forever reminding us of the strength and tenderness that defined her.

A celebration of Mildred's life will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home in Evansville, Indiana. Friends and family may gather at 11am until time of service at 12noon. Inurnment to immediately follow.
