In Loving Memory of Mark Robert Brown

October 14, 1955 – September 29, 2025

With heavy hearts and fond memories, the family of Mark Robert Brown, 69, of Evansville, announces his passing on Monday, September 29, 2025, at his home.

Mark was born on October 14, 1955, in Savannah, Georgia, to the late Donald E. Brown and Jane (Miller) Brown, while his father was stationed at Hunter Air Force Base. The family soon returned home to Evansville, where they grew to include seven children. Mark, the second oldest, quickly carved out his own unique place in the bunch.

A 1973 graduate of North High School, Mark joined the U.S. Air Force the following year and was stationed at Grissom Air Force Base. After his service, he went on to work at Whirlpool as a head operator, where he proudly retired after 34 years of dedication.

Mark had an insatiable curiosity from a young age-he was the kind of kid who would take things apart just to figure out how they worked. Thankfully, as he got older, he also learned how to put them back together. Whether it was lawn mowers, mopeds, washers, dryers, or refrigerators, if it had moving parts, Mark could fix it. But where he really shined was with vehicles-cars, trucks, motorcycles-you name it. His skills in the garage earned him the affectionate nickname "Bendix," which he carried with pride.

His little sister Melissa was his frequent assistant, particularly on brake jobs-though it's unclear whether she volunteered or was recruited. He had a deep appreciation for antiques, loved spending time in his garden, and always had a soft spot for animals. Over the years, he shared his home and heart with many pets-dogs, birds, and yes, even a few "pet" cats.

Mark also loved music and spent his younger years chasing the thrill of live concerts. He had a goofy streak a mile wide and loved making people laugh, whether it was through a silly joke or just being delightfully offbeat.

He is survived by his six siblings: Donald E. Brown, David R. (Mary) Brown, Jeffrey K. (Dana) Brown, Susan L. Flick-all of Evansville; Richard N. (Stephanie) Brown of Boonville; and Melissa (Tim) Wesbecher of Newburgh. He also leaves behind 17 nieces and nephews and 24 great-nieces and nephews. Each one has at least one unforgettable "Uncle Mark" story-though most could probably tell a dozen. He loved to give each of them thoughtful, heartfelt gifts at Christmas, always managing to find something that made them feel seen and special.

Mark was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his nieces Tiffany M. Brown, Alissa J. Haley, and Stephanie M. Chase, his nephew Matthew D. Brown, and his sister-in-law Bethanne Brown.

Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1800 St. George Rd, Evansville, IN, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A eulogy will be shared at 12:00 PM, followed by a graveside burial at 1:00 PM.

Mark will be remembered for his generous heart, his clever hands, his sharp sense of humor, and the love he gave freely to his family and friends. He was one of a kind-and he'll be deeply missed.
