Tyler John Bieck, 40, passed away on May 24, 2025 in McCook, Nebraska. Tyler was born September 5, 1984 to William and Mary Jo (Walsh) Bieck.
While attending McCook High School, Tyler served in several leadership positions. He especially enjoyed being a co-editor to the "MHS Stampede Newsletter", often providing a sarcastic, humorous, or provocative opinion in a regular column. Tyler was also selected by the student body to be the student representative to the McCook School Board of Education. He participated in golf and was a student athletic trainer for the MHS athletic teams. Tyler was selected as senior class president and homecoming king and belonged to The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). He graduated amongst many friends in 2003.
After high school Tyler eagerly pursued the next phase in his life. He attended Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri; University of Nebraska-Lincoln; and McCook Community College where he completed his degree. During this period, Tyler was employed part-time for the McCook Gazette as a sports photo-journalist. He especially enjoyed covering Husker football and volleyball at UNL. One of his favorite accounts was interviewing the Husker volleyball team after a convincing win and was able to "elevate" himself by standing on the bleachers to generate a face-to-face interview. As a sportswriter, he brought moments to life – both in words and images – capturing the spirit of the games and the people who played them. Later in life he opened his own bookkeeping business.
Tyler was a man of strong faith. From a young age, his relationship with the Lord shaped who he was and the man he was driven to become. It was a reliance on these convictions that guided him through some challenging and troubled times.
On August 7, 2009, Tyler married Kaye T. Smith and together they were blessed with three daughters: Olivia Mary Jo Bieck, Scarlett Christine Elizabeth Bieck, and Hazel Beverley Gracelynn Bieck.
Tyler had a passion for all genres of music, and he and Olivia often shared their favorite playlists. He valued his time with his daughters and loved watching movies, particularly "Pitch Perfect" and "Star Wars".
Tyler is survived by his daughters, Olivia, Scarlett, and Hazel of McCook; his father and step-mother, William and Sharla Bieck of McCook; brothers, Ryan (Mindy) Bieck of Papillion and Dr. Anthony (Maire Rose) Bieck of Kansas City, KS; maternal grandmother, Nellie Weldon of Arnolds Park, IA.; and many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Tyler was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jo Bieck on Jan. 18, 1998; his mother-in-law, Beverley Smith on Jan.12 2017; and grandparents, Kenneth and Wilma Bieck and Thomas Walsh.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Thursday afternoon, May 29, 2025 at the McCook E-Free Church with Pastor Bruce Lester officiating. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook will follow services. In keeping with Tyler's wishes the casket will remain closed at services and there will be no public visitation.
Memorial contributions will be made to BBR, Brain and Behavior Research Foundation. Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook.
