Tyrone Lionel Strickling, (Ty), 76, of Lake Villa, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2023, in
Round Lake Beach, IL. Born on July 21, 1947, in Montevideo, Uruguay. Ty was a caring man, devoted Father, and loving Grandpa. He lived a life rich in experiences and filled with love for his family and friends.
Born abroad, he traveled the world with his family including his three brothers and two sisters, while his father Clarence O'Dell was working for the US Embassy. He lived in Germany during his teenage years before finally moving to the US. He loved to tell stories of his childhood travels.
Ty proudly served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a helmsman of the naval destroyer USS Furse DD-882. He had countless stories about his time in the service and never missed a chance to share them. Serving in the Navy was one of the proudest moments of his life.
Outside of telling old war stories, Ty was an avid collector of die-cast model cars and loved watching classic movies of his favorite actor whom he was named after, Tyrone Power. His love for movies and music was boundless. He was known to enjoy films from classic to true crime and music from The Beatles to classical instrumental.
Ty's other passions included amateur photography, Chicago sports, and watching his Grandson Jonathan play soccer on the weekends.
He was described as a caring, soft-spoken individual, always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand. He was a man who faced life's challenges with quiet determination, always persevering, no matter the odds.
He is survived by his son, Tyrone Jonathan (Kathryn) Strickling and stepson Ernesto (Elvia) Bernadet; his siblings, James Strickling, Celestia McIntosh, Ninoska Spriggs; and his grandchildren, Jonathan, and Clara. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence O'Dell and Maria Elsa Rene Strickling, and his brothers, Rene O'Dell and Albert Jackson Warner.
Tyrone Lionel Strickling will be remembered not just for his intelligence, creativity, and passion, but for his warmth, kindness, and the love he had for his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, a testament to a life well lived. He was a man who made the world a little brighter, a little more beautiful, and he will be deeply missed.
