Ulyses Toomer

MR. ULYSSES TOOMER, affectionately known as "Toomer," was born on February 17, 1958, in Dawson, Georgia, to George Toomer, Sr., and Mae Emma Flagg.
Ulysses received his education in the Terrell County Public School System and was a proud graduate of the Terrell High School class of 1976. Ulysses was not afraid of hard work, so he began working at Steven's Industry at age 16. Shortly after graduation, he became a dedicated employee of Dawson Manufacturing Company from 1977 until they discontinued operations in 2007. He later was a driver for Toomer Trucking for eight years until his health declined.
Ulysses' spiritual beliefs in Christ led him to attend churches throughout Dawson and surrounding towns. However, he most frequently visited Mt. Mary Baptist Church where a number of his family members attend.
Ulysses had an infectious laugh which produced laughter for those around him. He enjoyed eating sweet treats, fishing, playing cards with friends, and dancing to show off his unforgettable moves. He loved watching basketball, for he supported and cheered for the Terrell County Greenwaves' basketball teams. He also loved listening to music by Keith Sweat, but his all-time favorite song was by Mel Waiters, "Hole in the Wall."
Ulysses' former marriage to Linda Leary was fulfilled even more with the birth of his children, Christopher and Rhoshonda Toomer. Later, he added to his legacy, Gabriel Toomer, a son with Dollie Jester.
Ulysses' final call from God to come home and rest was received in the early morning hours of October 25, 2023, at Dawson Manor. On that day, he mounted his wings and went to heaven to be greeted at the gates by his father, George Toomer, Sr.; his stepmother Laura Bell Toomer; and his brothers, Phillip Toomer, LarryToomer, Terry Toomer, George Toomer, Jr., and Michael Collier.
Ulysses leaves many relatives and friends to mourn his passing and cherish the memories of special moments spent with him. Those immediate family members are his loving and devoted mother, Mae Emma Flagg; his children, living on in their hearts, Christopher Toomer of Dawson GA, Gabriel (Shanbrika)Toomer of Sasser GA, and Rhoshonda (Jeremy) Laney of Leesburg, GA; sisters, Rozella Toomer of Corona, CA, Ruby Dean (Anthony) Arnold of Atlanta, GA, Nettie Terry of Dawson, GA, Gladys Burks of Americus, GA, Martha Toomer of Cliffwood Beach NJ, Bertha Lee of Warner Robins, and Kathleen Williams of TyTy, GA; brothers, Johnny (Mary Ann)Toomer, Toney Perry of Albany, GA, James Toomer, Sammy Toomer, and Hughey Terry, all of Dawson, GA; five grandchildren, Jaliyah, Jadarian, Kaylnn, Alayah, and Gabriel, Jr.; and a host aunts and uncles; beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins; and friends who will grieve his passing.
