Valetta Emily Raines

Valetta Emily Raines – Age 96 of Nashville, TN. July 6, 2023. Preceded in death by husband, Hubert Raines; and daughters, Becky Raines Green and Dana Raines Spann. Born May 5, 1927, in Henderson, KY, she was one of 14 children of Robert Lee and Birdie Emily and attended Weaverton High School grades 1-12. She was the valedictorian of the Class of 1945. Valetta graduated from the Nashville General Hospital School of Nursing in September of 1951 and then worked for Dr. Gordon Petty in Carthage, TN where she met and married Hubert Raines. They moved to Nashville in the spring of 1953. She worked at the Davidson County Health Department from 1953-1955. She worked for the Nashville General Hospital, 72 Hermitage Avenue and retired in January 1998. She was a Christian and member of the Church of Christ. Survived by sisters, LaVerne Thomason and Ruth Wallen; and brother, Elmo Emily.
Funeral services will be conducted by David Hayes Prophater on Monday, July 10, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. (visitation 12-2 p.m.) at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road. Interment Wheeler Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers: Male members of Meads Chapel Church of Christ, Bobby Spann and Bobby Smiley. Active Pallbearers: her nephews and Thomas Beeman, David Hust and Willard Mayes.
