Velma Jean Scott, age 85, of Freetown, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Velma was a devoted, life-time member of Freetown Church of Christ. Mrs. Scott dedicated 15 years of service to the Excello Shirt Factory in Seymour. Velma was also a gifted artist, known for her breathtaking portraits that earned blue ribbons and the admiration of all who saw them. Her ability to capture every detail through her beautiful eyes made her work truly unforgettable. In addition to her artistry, Velma was an incredible seamstress. She spent years sewing and creating arts and crafts, always finding joy in bringing beauty to life through her vision. Velma and her husband shared a passion for restoring antique vehicles. She worked alongside him ensuring every detail was perfect. Their teamwork and dedication brought new life to classic cars. The talents of Velma did not stop there. She also played rhythm guitar and sang with her husband, showcasing yet another facet of her creativity and spirit. Velma cherished her family and friends with all her heart and found true joy in spending time with each of them. She also dearly loved her two cats: Callie and Susie. Velma had a deep love for all animals, always showing kindness and compassion to everyone she encountered, listening to Bluegrass and country music, watching westerns and The Voice, working in her flowers, and doing upholstery. Velma's legacy is one of artistry, craftsmanship, and love. Velma touched the lives of many with her talents and will always be remembered for the beauty she brought into the world. Born on September 5, 1940, in Seymour, Velma was the daughter of Garland and Florence (Hupp) Sullivan, both of whom preceded her in death. On April 13, 1957, in Freetown, Velma married Clayton "Pug" Leon Scott, and he survives in Freetown. Survivors include three sons: Gary Lynn Scott of Ft. Worth, Texas, Jack Allen Scott of Hendersonville, Tennessee, and Gene Dale (Becky) Scott of Seymour; one daughter, Kathy Sue (Barry) Clark of Freetown; grandchildren: Brody Scott Clark, James "Ligie" (Rachel) Whipker, Sarah (Tedd) Stucker, and Bryan (Ashley) Whipker; and great-grandchildren: Annabella Stucker, Ellianna Stucker, August Whipker, Elias Whipker, Miranda Hollaway, and Taylor Johnson. Velma was also preceded in death by an infant son, Lonnie Leon Scott; and one brother, Billy Dean (Debra) Sullivan. Funeral services for Velma Jean Scott will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Freetown Church of Christ with Pastor Barry DeWitt officiating. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Freetown Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Lucas Cemetery, Freetown.
