Vena Bailey passed away on February 28, 2025 in Ormond Beach, Florida at the age of
98. She was born on July 4, 1926, in Delray Beach, Florida to John and Ruth Dawson.
Vena grew up in Delray Beach and graduated from Delray High School. She came to
Daytona Beach and worked at the Western Union office. She met her life-long friend
Audrey Lewis, and they became roommates until she married.
Vena married Franklin W. Bailey (Frank) on November 19, 1950. Frank passed away in
February 2019, after they celebrated over 68 years of marriage, raising four sons. Vena
and Frank began raising their family in Holly Hill and moved to Ormond Beach in 1960.
Vena and Frank were incredibly supportive of their children, including camping trips,
sports activities, and the Boy Scouts. Vena also supported her boys' newspaper routes,
including managing the books, wrapping the papers, and driving the car for deliveries.
Vena was also particularly supportive of her grandson Frank III (Frankie), who she
tutored in various subjects and helped get certified in SCUBA by attending the classes
with him because he was too young to attend by himself.
When Frank retired in 1988, they moved to the farm on Airport Road in Ormond Beach,
where Frank continued his love for farming, raising beef cattle and producing hay. Vena
was with Frank every step of the farming life. Vena also enjoyed quilting and her dogs
over the years including, Coco, Sissy, Sassy, Sheila, Barney and Nicholas.
Vena leaves behind her sons Frank Jr. (Marilyn), Michael (Judy), Stephen (Wanda),
Kent (Gretchen), as well as grandchildren Frank Bailey III (Angela), Amy Beatty
(Samuel), and Abby Reid (Nathaniel), and great grandchildren Shelbi Bailey, Isabella
Bailey, Lillian Warden Bailey, Bailey Reid, and Brooks Reid. Vena is predeceased by her
parents and brother Ben Dawson, twin sister Vera Warner, and sister Helen Dennis.
