Obituary published on Legacy.com by Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home and Crematory - Muskogee on Jan. 6, 2026.
Vergie Louise (Blackwell) Hackett, 97, was born in Cedar Creek, Missouri on February 26, 1928, to Alva Monroe and Margaret (Bagley) Blackwell. On Sunday, January 4, 2026, at her granddaughter, Kelly Rowlett's home in
Melissa, Texas, she entered eternal rest. Her journey was marked by a life walking in faith, resilience, and unwavering devotion to those she cherished, and a spirit that found beauty in everyday moments.
Vergie took comfort in watching classic television shows such as Gunsmoke, where familiar stories brought a sense of familiarity and excellent story lines. She delighted in friendly games of Chinese Checkers that often turned into moments of laughter and connection. She enjoyed browsing garage and estate sales, discovering small treasures and stories hidden in the ordinary, she found pleasure in shopping and dining out, along with her trips to the beauty and nail salon followed by a delicious lunch out.
More than anything, Vergie loved watching movies, gathering with family, and being surrounded by those she held dear. It was during these times, through quiet conversations, shared laughter, and the comfort of togetherness, that her heart was fullest and her joy most evident. When friends or loved ones came to visit, Vergie was known to greet them with a gentle smile, something to eat, and the opportunity to rest. "Tell me something good" was more than her phrase, it was an invitation. It reflected her genuine love for conversation, her deep interest in the lives of others, and her sincere desire to know what was happening in the hearts and days of the people she cared for most.
Vergie's life was marked by quiet strength, abiding kindness, abundant faith, and an enduring love that asked for little and gave immensely. She will be remembered not only for the things she did, but for the way she made people feel seen, welcomed, and deeply valued. Her memory will remain a source of comfort and guidance to all who were blessed to know her, living on in the hearts of her family and friends for generations to come.
Vergie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Alva Dean Blackwell of
Muskogee, Oklahoma; sister, Anny Faye (Blackwell) Jackson of Cedar Creek, Missouri, and sister, Alma Jean Buchanan of Fargo, Oklahoma; husband, Edgar Eugene Hackett of Roanoke, Virginia; her beloved children, Janet Louise Hackett, Carolyn Lucille Hackett, and Robert Eugene Hackett, all of
