Verna Mae Igl, of Antigo, passed away Saturday, October 1st, 2022, at Care Partners Assisted Living under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice. She was born on January 21st, 1938 to the late Anton and Beulah (Walters) Drexler in Antigo.
She was a graduate of Antigo High School, class of 1955. On June 6th, 1959 she married Donald Igl at St. John Catholic Church.
Verna worked at Weinbrenner Shoe Company Factory prior to marriage. She raised her family of six while farming with her husband, Don. She was a seamstress at Shafner Draperies and Guenther Interiors. She also worked on the assembly line for Traditional Neon.
She was a member of St. Wencel Catholic Church in Neva.
Verna's life revolved around her family. Don & Verna shared their lives together for over 63 years. Their love for each other was inspiring to those around them. She loved her children and raised them with Christian values, integrity, love, and a hard work ethic. Her face lit up with every baby who arrived in her home. She was a true "Homemaker". Making countless clothes, curtains, and quilts. Crocheting and knitting many hats and mittens for her family. Making baby blankets was one of her favorites. She was a great cook, with so many different ways to make potatoes. She enjoyed baking sweets and holiday treats. Playing cards with family and friends was a great way to socialize and have fun.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
Survivors include her husband, Donald; two daughters, Beverly (Joseph) Saelens of Oregon and Ann (Steven) Perkins of Chippewa Falls; four sons, Steven (Helen) Igl of Gleason, Dennis (Suzanne) Igl of Antigo, Randall (Annette) Igl of Denton, TX, and Kevin (special friend Mel) Igl of Antigo; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Delores Zimmerman, Jane Breitenfeldt, and Jeanette Breitenfeldt all of Antigo.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Anton, Lawrence, and Earl; sisters-in-law, Virginia and Rosemary Drexler; and brothers-in-law; Joseph Zimmerman, Lawrence Breitenfeldt, and Lloyd Breitenfeldt.
A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 8th, at 1:30 pm at St. Wencel Catholic Church with Rev. George Daniel officiating. Burial will take place in St. Wencel Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, October 7th from 4-7 pm and Saturday, October 8th from 12-1 pm at the Bradley Funeral Home. A parish wake service will be held on Friday at 5 pm at the funeral home.
