Vernon Goode Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Craig Funeral Home on Mar. 10, 2026.
Vernon Sanchez Goode, 60, passed away after a lengthy illness on March 8, 2026. He is survived by his twin brother Martin (Heather) Goode and his sister Kelly (Kevin) Battell, nieces Kerron DeLancett, Cheyenne Kesslar, Courtney Goode and Kora Battell, nephews Kyle Battell, Taylor Goode, Connor Goode and Hunter Goode, sister-in-law Mary Goode, aunts Penny Mayo and Karen Taylor, uncles Byng Goode and Jeff Overby, and many special cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Sanchez and Eleanor Abnot Goode, and brother William Goode.

Vernon was born in Charleston, SC, on January 22, 1966, but lived in St. Augustine since the age of seven. He was a proud heritage native, able to trace his ancestry back to St. Augustine's founding in 1565 through the Sanchez family line. Vernon loved hearing and telling the history of his family.

Vernon graduated from St. Augustine High School (1984) where he was voted "Best All Round", played football, wrestled and was in JROTC. He also graduated from FCTC's Nursing program after which he worked as an LPN at Flagler Hospital. Vernon later went to work for his brother Bill at Goode Works Custom Cabinets. Their beautiful work can be seen in many fine homes and businesses throughout the state.

Vernon enjoyed watching football, especially the Florida Gators and Miami Dolphins, visiting with family and friends and the beach. He was quite humorous and fun to be around. Vernon will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date. Donations can made in Vernon's honor to the St. Augustine Humane Society, Community Hospice, or a charity of your choosing. A special thank you to his caregivers at The Lilac at Bayview Skilled Nursing Facility, Community Hospice and Dr. Ben Pineau of Borland Groover.
