Veronica Frances Petric, age 76, affectionately known to her family and friends as "Vee" passed away on July 21, 2025, along with her faithful canine companion, "Scruffy Joe". Born on November 29, 1948, to John and Mary Petric (nee Novak), she was raised in the Collinwood neighborhood of Cleveland. Vee was the fifth of six children: Major John A. Petric, deceased (wife Linda), Mary Joyce Buchanan (husband John, deceased), Barbara Kuzma (husband Edward ), Timothy Petric, deceased (wife Mary), and Rudy Petric. Veronica was a cherished aunt to Joan, (wife Cynthia), John A. Petric, Jr. (wife Meg), Steven Petric (wife Ann Marie), Wendy Zorman (husband Christian), Brenda Buchanan (wife Terese), Edward J. Kuzma, Jr. (wife Jennifer), John P. Kuzma, M.E. Kuzma (partner Matt), and Natalie Whalen (husband James). She was also a great aunt to Rachel, Sarah, Kathryn, Audrey, Morghan, Jackson, Tillie, Caroline, and Ainsley. Veronica also leaves behind many faithful and longtime friends she has met throughout her life including Dr. Corine Yee, Kathy Mayer, Carolyn Unitas Evers, Mary Beesing, Debi Gamber, Elaine Minch, and many more.
Veronica attended St. Mary's Elementary School, graduated from Regina High School (class of '66), and the University of Dayton (class of '70). Veronica taught second and third grade at Christ the King Church for several years before her long career and retirement from Medical Mutual of Ohio, where she had been an underwriter and actuarial analyst among other positions over her career. She left behind many co-workers and friends that she made during her tenure at both, still enjoying relationships with many children she taught as well as her fellow teachers. She definitely left her "mark", professionally and socially ! Veronica was known for her infectious laugh, quick wit, generosity, and gift giving. She was known for her sense of humor, often at the center of gatherings telling her views of "things" ! Vee was compassionate Veronica had an excellent memory for names, dates, family history and for funny stories. She was a great storyteller, including many details that others could no longer recall. She was a very stylish and well-dressed woman who carried herself with confidence. Veronica was known for her love of all things such as Hello Kitty and her massive collection of all things "Hearts", adorning herself and her house with them. She was a devoted daughter to her late parents taking meticulous care of them for many years. Veronica was known for giving so many family and friends humorous or affectionate nicknames, which are still used today to identify many whose real names have long since been forgotten. She doted on her nieces and nephews, attending ceremonies, concerts, plays, and sporting events. She attended weddings and celebrations for the children of her many dear friends. Veronica was also dedicated to the Catholic Church, becoming a parishioner of both St. Mary of the Assumption and Holy Cross Catholic Church. She was also a member of the St. Mary Altar Society, St. Mary's choir and was a member of KSKJ. One of her greatest joys was becoming a Eucharistic Minister, delivering the Holy Eucharist to her parents and others who were unable to attend Sunday Mass. She loved her Slovenian heritage and gave generously to many organizations and to her church. Veronica was fond of attending St. Mary's Church picnic at Pristava over the years in support of her beloved church. She will be missed by those who knew her and loved her. She touched the lives of so many more ! May God Bless Her.
Mass and Christian burial is at St. Mary's of the Assumption Church on September 19, 2025, 10:00am. Family will receive visitors in the church at 9:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary's of the Assumption Church or The Euclid Animal Shelter.
