Vicki Hunt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Best Funeral Services Peoria on Aug. 8, 2024.
Vicki Lee (Callin) Hunt was born in Phoenix, Arizona on April 21, 1943, to Nancy and Robert T. Callin. She went to be with the Lord peacefully on July 25, 2024. Vicki grew up in Glendale, Arizona. She attended Unit 1 in grade school and graduated from Glendale Union High School. She pursued a degree in Education from Grand Canyon College and, at the age of 21, began teaching English at Dysart High School. On May 31, 1968, she married Paul Vinck. They had their first son, Jeff Vinck, in 1971, adopted their daughter, Katie Thompson, in 1975, and had their second son, Chad Vinck, in 1978. During this time Vicki stayed home with her children and sold Tupperware with her lifelong best friend Sherril Hein. Eventually, she found her way back to the classroom, teaching at Peoria High School for 16 years. On August 4, 1994, Vicki married Thomas Hunt. Together they purchased "The Saliba House" in Old Town Peoria, remodeled the property and turned it into Old Town Bed & Breakfast and Wedding Reception Center. Starting what would become Peoria's first bed and breakfast opened her eyes to local government. It was during this process that she fell in love with the people of the Acacia District and would later go on to represent them as a city council member for 16 years. Vicki worked tirelessly to help others, served on countless committees and boards, supported and celebrated the arts, and developed multiple programs for the betterment of the community. She is predeceased by her parents, Robert and Nancy Callin of Glendale. She is survived by her devoted and beloved husband, Tom Hunt; her brother Ted Callin and wife Barbara; her cousin Patrick Witter and wife Deborah; her son Jeff Vinck and wife Tabor; her daughter Katie Thompson and husband Barry; her son Chad Vinck and wife Carolyn; her grandchildren Ryan Thompson, Macie Ratay and husband Alex, Reagan Thompson, Addison Vinck; her nephew Tad Callin, wife Kate and their children; her niece Sara Hobbs, husband Billy and their children. She also leaves behind so many dear, amazing friends who guided, influenced, and supported her all throughout life. Vicki Hunt had a gift for inspiring, encouraging, and embracing others. Her heart for God, her family, friends, colleagues, and community were unmatched. She lived her life with a fierce, generous love, leaving an indelible mark. Her example and legacy will live on in the hearts of each of us. Her life's journey traversed many avenues and brought her in contact with people from all backgrounds. She saw life through the lens of true humanity. She taught us to make a difference in the world. All it takes is love and compassion. A celebration of her life will take place in Old Town Peoria inside Worship and Word Church at 8175 W Grand Ave in Peoria, Arizona, on Thursday August 22 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to her Oral Histories Project through WHAM at www.wham-art.org or to her beloved TheaterWorks at www.theaterworks.org.
