Vickie Austin Obituary

Visit the Clark Funeral Home - Hawkinsville website to view the full obituary.

Vickie Jones Austin, a woman of quiet strength and boundless love, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, creativity, and unwavering care for those she held dear. Born to Thomas Watson Jones and Hazel Dowdy Jones, Vickie was a woman ahead of her time—an entrepreneur, farmer, artist, and craftswoman who approached every endeavor with precision and grace. Her artistic talents are forever preserved in the beautiful stained glass windows that grace many churches throughout middle Georgia, a testament to her skill and devotion. Her culinary gifts were equally renowned, as her pecan candies and pies became beloved Georgia classics that fed many families through countless Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. Vickie’s multifaceted talents were matched only by her dedication to family and home, which she managed with the same quiet efficiency that marked all aspects of her life.

Vickie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank “Bobo” Austin, and her cherished son, Ivy Frank Austin. She was also preceded by her parents, Thomas Watson Jones and Hazel Dowdy Jones; her sister, Paula Jones Horton; brother-in-law, George Cecil Pickett, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Mildred “Teany” Austin Watson. She is survived by her daughter, Angela Austin Fragakis, and son-in-law, Arthur George Fragakis; her grandsons, Nicholas Fragakis (Kylie Marie Austin) and Jacob Thomas Fragakis, whom she adored beyond measure. Vickie is also survived by her sister, Patricia Jones Pickett, and her nieces: Michelle Horton (Mark Arrowsmith), Miranda Minor (Craig Minor), Ann Pickett (Michael Collier), Betsy Moore (Rod Moore), Katie Ingram (Brandon Ingram), Jane Watson Raines (Morry), Mary Watson Trumble (Greer), and Susie Watson Dekle; brother-in-law, Mike Horton as well as sixteen great nieces and great nephews, and twelve great-great nieces and nephews. Her lifelong best friend, Beth Hollingsworth (Ronald), remains among those who will forever cherish her memory.

Those who knew Vickie understood that her love was both quiet and intentional—expressed not through grand gestures, but through steady presence and unwavering support. She possessed a dry wit and steady hand that served her well in all of life’s endeavors. Her devotion extended beyond family to her beloved dogs, especially her treasured Lexi, and the faithful companions that came before. Vickie spent many years as a caregiver to those closest to her, embodying the truth that to know her was to be loved by her. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the family she nurtured, the sacred spaces beautified by her artistry, and the quiet but profound impact she made on all who were fortunate enough to call her their own.
