Victor J Fondacaro Jr., 49, of Amsterdam, NY, passed away after an arduous battle with cancer on Wednesday, February 12th, surrounded by his family and close friends.
Vic was a very authentic, kind, and gentle man. He was down to earth, sensitive, fun, strong, and loving with a great sense of humor. Most everyone that met him liked him. He was respectful, genuine, and worked hard throughout his life. He was a proud man who deeply loved his family. He was a fabulous Uncle who never minded getting dirty, playing games, or having his niece apply make-up to his face and/or play dress up games with some crazy "get- up" she concocted when just a little girl. And when two more nieces came along, similar antics continued. He loved being with his family, vacationing to Florida, playing golf, going to the beach, playing cards with family and poker at the casino, cigars, riding the Harleys and boating with dad.
Vic was a die-hard fan of the NY Yankees and enjoyed attending games with family and friends. He once told me that his favorite song was "Centerfield" by John Fogerty. Most people don't know that Vic was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and one of the youngest to obtain this rank of Knighthood. He was also voted "Most Considerate" in his graduating class. Kids, cats, and dogs were very fond of Vic, and he was mutually fond of them. Vic loved to share his knowledge of things that he knew or learned, and he did so with impeccable storytelling ability. Vic was good with his hands so it wasn't surprising that he became an optician, which is where he met Kristine, the woman of his dreams and with whom he would spend the final 5 and a half years of his life.
You never know when your last goodbye will be, so cherish each one. We will all miss Vic and can only pray that he has found peace.
Victor is survived by his parents, Victor and Alberta Fondacaro; his siblings, Nicole Fondacaro and Adrian Mallozzi (Bobby); his nieces, Sydni Signore, Stella Mallozzi and Chloe Mallozzi; his fiancé, Kristine DiBartolomeo; dear close friends Jeff and Heather Capitummino; several dear family members, countless friends, and his beloved cats "Almond" and "Pistachio."
Calling hours will be Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 4:00-7:00 pm at De Stefano Funeral Home, 1414 State Highway Rt. 5-S, Amsterdam. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with the Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V. as Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery at a later date.
