Victor Louis Machunski Jr., 79, passed away on July 31, 2025. He was the devoted husband of Lugene (Lewis) Machunski for the past 43 years.
He is survived by his two sons: Joshua B. Machunski and his wife Susannah of
Hopedale, MA, and Matthew L. Machunski and his wife Amanda of Seekonk, MA. He is also survived by his brother, Ronald Machunski, and his wife Deborah of Walpole, MA; and by several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Graham, Rory, Zosia, and Roman.
He was predeceased by his father, Victor Machunski Sr., and his mother, Dorothy (Halfrey).
Vic was a 1963 graduate of Needham High School in Needham, MA, where he played both football and baseball. He earned his BBA in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame and his MBA in Finance, with honors, from Babson College. During his sophomore year at Notre Dame, he earned a spot on the JV baseball team-an achievement he was proud of.
Vic was a United States Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in Da Nang as a general supply officer in the Seabees.
His professional career included leadership roles at several retail companies, including Zayre Corporation in Natick, MA, where he met his future wife, Lugene. He later served as CFO at Mark Cross Pen Company, a subsidiary of A.T. Cross in Rhode Island.
Vic grew up and raised his family in Needham, Massachusetts. He especially treasured weekends spent playing sports with his children-whether tossing a baseball in the backyard, shooting hoops, playing 18 holes of golf, or dominating a game of street hockey. These friendly competitions instilled in his sons a deep appreciation for sportsmanship, teamwork, and the joy of family-values now passed on to his grandchildren.
He spent countless hours tending to his garden, filled with a variety of vegetables, though his greatest pride was his meticulously maintained lawn. He refused to use a riding lawn mower, insisting that pushing it was "good exercise."
Vic was an avid reader, gardener, and cook. He loved playing any sport with his children and grandchildren, including hockey, skating, rollerblading, golfing, skiing, biking, swimming, boating, basketball, football, and soccer. He lived a life filled with love and activity, and found his greatest joy in watching his sons grow-cheering them on at every soccer and football game.
In retirement, Vic and Lugene moved to a home on Webster Lake, where he enjoyed his pontoon boat, fishing, swimming, maintaining his yard, and hosting lively family gatherings for birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. His favorite moments, though, were spent watching his grandchildren play sports and swim at the lakehouse in summer or skate in the winter. He proudly answered to the name "Bop," a title he held with deep love and joy.
