Vincent Amatangelo of Allison Park died peacefully with his family by his side on December 19, 2024.
Vince was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Amatangelo and Margaret Carozza Amatangelo, his siblings Katherine Brown, Alfred Amatangelo, and Josephine De Sua. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Malloy Amatangelo, daughters Julie Amatangelo and Gina Amatangelo (Daniel Lopez), granddaughters Zoe and Ada Lopez, and his niece and nephew Tina Brown and Ron Brown (Katie), great nieces and nephews, and two great great nephews.
He was Married for 58 years to his loving wife Peggy. The couple raised two strong and accomplished daughters, and taught them the importance of family, faith and social justice. Vince and Peggy were proud of how their daughters passed along the importance of these values in their life and work.
Vince was a straight-forward, no-nonsense man with strong family values and commitment to hard work.
Starting when he was a boy growing up in Monessen and White Oak, Vince loved sports, including everything from water & snow skiing, to hunting and fishing. Vince was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and enjoyed teaching Football 101 at CCAC, a popular course with football moms and "football widows."
Vince was proud of his ability to repair anything including car engines and even an automatic transmission. He once fixed his daughter's lawnmower with the spring from a ballpoint pen.
He earned a BS degree in Mechanical Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh as well as a Master's degree from Penn State in the same field.
Vince was a pioneer with the 1965 Gemini aerospace program. The high point in his career was the design and analysis of the umbilical and oxygen supply for space walks including the first space walk by Astronaut Ed White.
Later, Vince worked in automotive and consumer electronics and the steel and aluminum industries. Vince ended his engineering career working on the design of mine safety equipment. He retired in 2019 to spend more time with his family.
He visited 44 states in the US for business and pleasure and many foreign countries, his favorites being Sweden and England.
He continued his community work in social justice, public safety, and work on clean air issues. Vince was a lifelong learner and took many Osher classes with Carnegie Mellon University. He also remained active in local politics.
Vince will be missed by friends and family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 28th at 1:00 p.m. in Saints Martha and Mary Parish, St. Catherine of Sweden Church, 2554 Wildwood Road, Allison Park, PA 15101.
