Vincent H. Marchant, Jr., of Wilmington Massachusetts, passed peacefully on May 21, 2024, with his family by his side. He was the son of the late Vincent H. Marchant, Sr. and the late Muriel (Roy) Marchant of Wilmington, Massachusetts. Known affectionately as "Vinny", he was the devoted husband of the late Nancy (Ritchie) Marchant. Vinny and Nancy were married for 53 years and raised their family on Village Street in Reading Massachusetts for 25 years. He was employed by American Mutual for 27 years working in the computer room. He stayed as an employee until the company closure and then took the opportunity to work for CSC CompuSource. Vinny and Nancy moved to Brunswick, Maine for a job opportunity, but it was always a dream of theirs to retire in the State of Maine.
Vinny's most proud time in his life was building a house with his father on Nichols Street in Wilmington. From there became his passion for woodworking. He was an avid woodworker who loved making wooden toy trains and yard decorations. He loved spending time in his workshop at home or at Keoka Beach Campground in Maine. It is at Keoka where you will find so much of his creations scattered around, including the original Cracker Jack Lane sign. Making camping signs was Vinny's signature craft and he always welcomed new campers by offering to make them a family name sign.
His second favorite summer pastime was his boat. He enjoyed fishing, showing others how to drive a boat, but most especially he loved to pull his kids and their friends behind the boat by helping a new water skier, pulling kids on the tube, or trying a new fun challenge to see how many he could pull on the back of the boat at one time! It was always great fun when he found a new water challenge. His grandchildren and their friends remember his never-ending rides.
Most importantly Vinny was a giving man. Besides caring for his wife and children, he was a Scout Master, head of the umpires for Reading Youth Baseball, lead the American Mutual Employees Association hosting family day outings, and ran several bowling leagues in Wakefield and Woburn. When he became a grandfather, he gave his all to make memories and wishes come true for his three precious grandchildren.
On the offseason of camp, Vinny enjoyed his winters as a devoted Boston Sports fan. He also enjoyed connecting with his Keoka family by finding ways for families and friends to spend time-particularly if there was a cribbage game involved!
Vinny is survived by his children Janice (Marchant) Fitzgerald and Pete (Fitzy) of Lewiston, Maine; David Marchant and Annette of Tewksbury, Massachusetts; Scott Marchant of Limington, Maine; and his grandchildren Jake, Jacqui, and Hannah Marchant. He is also survived by his siblings Robert Marchant and wife Laurie of Fort Meyers, Florida; Ron Marchant of Wilmington, Massachusetts; the late Dorothea McIntire and by several extended family members and longtime friends. He is remembered lovingly by his life partner Lorraine Knox of Sanford, Maine and her family Julie, Keith, Danny, Kathy, Jennie, Tony, Shelli, Justin, and Tasha and happily remembered as Great Grampa Vinny to Grayson, Griffin, Hadley, Piper, and Brooke. He will be deeply missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation in the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park St, (Corner of Park St. and Rte. 28) North Reading at Reading line on Monday, June 10th from 10am thru 12pm followed by a service of remembrance at noon. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
